Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Note5
« on: June 19, 2014, 01:12 PM »
Is there a way to verify which version I'm using?  I'm still having the same issue after re-downloaded using the link posted in:
Update: v1.0.0.12

Added tray icon, Full window view for notes, and fixed note focus bug.

I'm still working on other features so stay tuned.  ;)

One more bug:  Changing the title of the leftmost note isn't persistent.  After restarting Note5, the title reverts to Note1 (unless I manually change the title in the XML file).

The more I use this, the more I like it.  It's probably the simplicity that appeals to me.

Here are a couple of things that would be nice to see, if possible:
- Ability to customize the time/date format inserted when F5 is pressed
- 'Stay on Top' option (with a transparency setting would be ideal)

Very nice!

One bug I noticed was that clicking on 'About' from the menu button in the upper left corner brings up the expected window.  But when I try to close the About window, the Note5 window doesn't take the focus.  Instead the Windows Explorer window from which I opened the program takes focus, and I wasn't able to get the Note5 window to respond.  This happened twice, so it appears to be reproducible.

N.A.N.Y. 2014 / Re: NANY 2014 Pledge: Productivity utility
« on: November 25, 2013, 10:09 AM »
I'm looking forward to seeing your work on this.  I've tried many programs that are targeted toward productivity, but haven't found one that fits me well.

My current list of productivity programs:
ToDoList (large projects)
OpenGTD on Outlook (managing the email flood at work-where M$ is solidly entrenched)
EssentialPIM (trying this out for smaller projects and email/calendaring at home)

If you are looking to develop a 'great unifier' or something that could replace any/all of these, I will be most interested in seeing the end result...and will help with testing, if desired.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Capture Benefits
« on: September 08, 2013, 08:56 PM »
I like the degree of customization that Screenshot Captor provides.  I'm willing to spend a couple of minutes digging to find out how to do what I want to do with it...but that's only necessary when I want to either change my workflow--or work on a task that is different than I've used SSC for in the past.

The bare-bones version of the quick-capture bar takes up only a pixel or two on the top of my screen when hidden.  With its intuitive icons, it gives quick access to the capture modes, settings, and main window when I'm ready to take a screenshot.

And I like the way and the community in which SSC is developed.

I also think wiz is very interesting, and more users taking wiz.

:P  :D
There's no doubt that their English is better than my Chinese...but I still got a laugh out of that.

On a more serious note, as one of those wiz-taking users, I recently installed 'wiznote-windows-x64-2013-07-15'.  But I also immediately uninstalled it after seeing the login screen on startup--at least until I'm happy with the answers to the following questions:

1.  What am I signing up for?
2.  What are the terms/conditions of the cloud provider?
3.  Who (besides the NSA) will have access to the data that I store "in the clouds"?

General Software Discussion / Re: Freeware = CRAP!

Congratulations on finding the right place to complain about Screenshot Captor.  It's too bad that you didn't find DonationCoder.com before you downloaded this particular software program.  Yes, it is obvious that you downloaded this from another site--since any viruses or malware associated with this program would have been added to it 'after-market'--it simply isn't in the Screenshot Captor software downloaded from DonationCoder.

After you get your machine cleaned up, it would be best if you stick to reputable sites for downloading software.  Also, don't get suckered by the sites that say "Your computer has been infected.  Click HERE to run a free virus/malware scan."  Those sites are almost guaranteed to infect your system, and you'd be better off downloading a reputable antivirus/antimalware program directly from the developer's website.

Once you've cleaned up your machine, I challenge you to download and use any or all of the programs offered on the DonationCoder website.  You will find good software developed by great people (I can say this because I haven't developed any of the software on this site), and the community is very welcoming.  Questions or improvement suggestions are addressed quickly and comprehensively.

It's unfortunate that your computer contracted a virus...don't compound the error by blaming decent software and decent people.

So if just regurgitating press releases isn't real journalism, don't you think it's time for a change of vocabulary?

How about gerbilism...would that adequately describe the form of journalism currently being practiced?

Finished Programs / Re: Another small clipboard monitor
« on: July 12, 2013, 10:50 PM »
Just downloaded the latest...it's all clear to me now!  ;)

The shortcuts aren't exactly intuitive, but I can probably handle the four of them--anyone else have suggestions for English version shortcuts?

One other thing I noticed, the white on white color scheme makes it a bit difficult to see if the option is toggled.

Thanks for the translated version!

Hi flamerz,

+1 for an English version...I use rpclip from time to time, and would find an English version to be best for my use.

(No hablo español bien y comprendo solo un poco.)

Thanks!

Great...now I'll get even less sleep at night... :-\

Here's a new challenge -- beat my first try!

Congratulations!  And thank you.

SC 4.0 has already received a good review from ghacks.net here.

39
Uploading works well with ImageShack (used registration number per your recommendation), and was able to remove images immediately.

Imm.io images are removed (deleted?) 30 days from last view, so that option is good for screenshots that are only needed for a short time (or will be used regularly)...as long as you don't mind not being able to delete them on demand.

I'm also looking forward to 4.0!

40
Just tried the new image uploader...very quick and easy.  One question about using pixlr's imm.io:  The FAQ on the site refers to Remove and Rename tabs, but they don't appear to be available when auto-uploading screenshots via SC.  Is there a way to delete the photos on this site once they've been uploaded by SC?

Living Room / Re: Google Glasses BANNED!
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:09 PM »
Mr. Meinert has an interest in several Seattle businesses--at least two of which are limited liability corporations.  However, it's not clear to me whether he's avoided enough personal responsibility to forfeit his right to ban Google Glasses at the 5 Points Cafe.  Just not sure how to measure that....   :D

So, for the person that owns that bar, I'd say he's well within reasonable expectations about what he allows inside of his bar.

I wouldn't say the same for a TGI Fridays though as that's a corporate entity and doesn't have human rights like you or I do.

So...if Dave Meinert owns the 5 Points Cafe as a sole proprietor, then he has standing to ban things in his establishment?

What if he has the 5 Points Cafe organized as an LLC (limited liability corporation)...or what if its a partnership--or a limited partnership?  At what point along the spectrum of legally-recognized business entities is the right to ban things gained or lost?   :)

43
Not a showstopper...but the custom date field popup is difficult to read with the field codes running into the descriptions:
custom_date_fields.JPG

...I really like how this is coming along!

44
Thanks for the response denn...I will take another look at the site.

45
I've been looking for a portable PIM, and have been pretty happy with a trial version of EssentialPIM Pro that I downloaded--so I thought I'd check out your site.

EssentialPIM Pro was listed, along with a 15% discount code, but the disappointing bit was that it was for EssentialPIM Pro 3.2--but the current version of this software is 5.5

I understand that the other 19999 discounts might apply to current versions of software, but I lost interest in this site quickly after my sample set of 1 turned out to be seriously out-of-date.

Here's a list of minor details found in the SC Options (or Preferences):

Spelling errors
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
1. Incorrect spelling of "miscellaneous" on the following screens:
   [Saving and Loading Files]
   [More Interface Options]
   [Window Capturing 2]

2. [Image File Format] screen: Backgroud Transparency should be spelled 'Background'

Date Fields - help button
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
On the [Saving and Loading Files] screen the date field help is brought up using a button with a ? icon, while on the [File Naming Template] screen the button is labeled 'Help on Fields'.
Suggest using the same button on both screens for consistency.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor - New Quick Capture Bar
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:12 PM »
I like the latest version, and the idea of being able to customize the quick capture bar to suit the user's needs (wants).  It looks like the challenge will be balancing 'customizability' with simplicity of use.  Is it correct to assume that you want to set up the default configuration to be obvious for new users, while preserving the ability of veteran users to customize the interface to fit any given task?

auto_caption.png

mouser, should the %num% field show up as an option under Automatic Captions?  Perhaps I'm just not understanding how it would be used in this context?

49
My understanding of the '%num%' Image Caption option under Automatic Captions is that it adds a 3-digit auto-incrementing number in place of the field.

However, the beta version shows %num% as seen below:

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 Release: Anuran
« on: April 17, 2012, 11:18 PM »
Looks like I'm a bit late to the ball here, but I just came across DC and have started trying out some of the programs.  I've found this to be a very useful time tracker, and could see using it in conjunction with a text expander and/or tags for tracking billable work (which would make filling in my weekly timesheet a breeze).

Seems like a couple of the earlier posters were using Anuran in a similar fashion.  If so, I'd be interested in hearing if/how you automated the logfile -> timesheet process.

In my case, timesheets are filled in using a corporate web app that uses fairly rigid spreadsheet import rules.  Seems like logfile->spreadsheet->timesheet could work if I was consistent with the entry formatting.

Thanks much skwire.
