jgpaiva, I'm watching this with great interest
As lanux128 very kindly pointed out, I'm looking for something specific https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=6497.0 and I think you're on to how to handle it.
Sometimes I despair that what seemed to be the better OS's fade away; if only the Amiga or OS/2 had been taken up and properly developed...sigh.  Shunting icons around like this, for example, was a  piece of cake under OS/2.

mitzevo,
This one looks very close to your ideal http://www.shareware...ganizer-arranger.htm:
thanks go to mimiihu and lanux128 for a great deal of help in this area!

brotherS: What I wonder most: how is OmniPage going to work together with PaperPort? As in: how can I automate the creation of PDF files that are searchable? The PDF files that PaperPort now creates aren't searchable
Which version of PaperPort did you obtain?
According to the PaperPort site, PaperPort 11 Pro automatically hands stuff off to the OmniPage Workflow but PaperPort 11 (standard) does not.
If you don't have the PaperPort Pro version it looks as if a good bet might be to scan to an Omnipage 'watched' folder (possibly in an OmniPage-friendly format other than .pdf).

FWIW Dexpot (or some interaction with it) significantly interfered with my system.  No context-menu funtionality, no shut down from the START menu, Task Manager inaccessible. Had to shut down from a command-line utility.  It's gone from my system now, and things are back to normal.  I don't like it enough to bother with another round.

f0dder, do you use UltraMon?  I wondered if the problem might be a collision with that.

4581
Farmsteader: Have you ever been able to automate input to OmnniPage?  What I mean is have you ever batched a job where you created a text file, etc. that was then able to be read into OmniPage and used OmniPage to create the final, searchable doc?  We used to do this in college...
I just use Omnipage on an ad hoc basis when I want a bit of material converted in a hurry.  Acrobat Pro handles most of what I need.  I'm sure what you suggest is perfectly feasible with most scripting languages.  Good point, Farmsteader.

Even easier, though would be to use this:
Omnipage 15 Pro help file:  In OmniPage Professional, you can specify folder watching and mailbox watching as job input, setup recurring jobs and the time options for watched folder jobs, create barcode driven jobs and request E-mail notification of job completion.
That being said, I'd still expect PaperPort to provide its own linking mechanism to Omnipage, especially if it claims to be OP friendly in its sales blurb.
Mind you, what would be common sense from a customer viewpoint doesn't always penetrate the vendor's awareness :)

Darwin: I keep getting the come ons from Nuance about PaperPort and can never quite understand why I would need such an application.

I honestly don't think you do need it.  I once used its forerunner (nearly 10 years back) and it was useful then because electronic filing of documents as images was relatively new for home users.  My own view is that, now, for someone without a blizzard of documentation to handle it's just irrelevant (as long as that someone has a system of some kind and doesn't just drop files with random names into the root  of C:).
This probably is one of those subjects (like favourite editors) where proponents, pro and con, have quite strong views.  I'd never condemn using a document manager if that's what you like...it's just not something I need.  I guess I file about 1000-1500 documents in the course of a year and I've had no trouble locating one yet.
Had I hundreds of pages a day, on closely similar topics, I certainly could see the use for a more sophisticated system.

(FWIW what I need is something that can read and convert tens of thousands of handwritten pages [from many different hands, in many different layouts] into editable and searchable text.)

Noone here could help with regard to my problem above?

I can't give you the help you need, which is why I didn't respond sooner.  All I can tell you is that Omnipage 15 creates searchable PDFs (can't now recall whether V14 did, but I think so). l don't use Paperport so I can't help with the mechanism used to call Omnipage from within that, nor do I know with which version(s) of Omnipage it will correspond.

Anyone care to try IdleRun   v1.2?

I say!  I think you nailed it.  It's telling me 14%, windows task manager is saying the same.  Nice going!

How about IdleRun   v1.1?

Thanks for the effort.  I still see negative numbers :(

nudone: i hope this has cured it but i am now almost dreading putting any data onto the drive
Well, good luck.  I hope your troubles are over!

But we did not get a dedicated document scanner.
We purchased a Brother MFC All in One because it was cheap. cheaper then most dedicated scanners.
But it does Scan, Print, Fax, and has a Document feeder.
I had a dedicated scanner but its feeder died at one point and all that was available locally, and RIGHT NOW, was an all-in-one Canon Multipass F80 with a feeder.  With that installed I never bothered to fix the dedicated job, which is now (one hopes) a bunch of recycled material.  The Canon's not nearly as fast as dedicated hardware but time's not a critical issue for me as long as it'll work unattended.  My typical multi-page job is only 30 pages or so.

FWIW here's another weird one.  (XP Pro, SP2, NTFS)

I have 4 on-board HDs in one of my machines:
One drive is for sytem files
One drive has applications only on it
Two drives are for various data and a few key applications.

A week or so ago the drive with only applications on it 'died' and took down the machine.  On reboot I couldn't find that drive anywhere, not in Computer Management/Storage, not even using the drive manufacturer's utility from a bootable floppy.  The rest of the system ran fine without that drive, except there was no longer any network access from this machine.  No problems with cabling, power supply, nothing of that kind.

I decided to fix the network issue first and, as a first step, used Device Manager to delete the network adapters.  A reboot found the network hardware and installed drivers for it.  Voila, the network was back (they should all be so easy).

HOWEVER the missing drive was also back.  A couple of days later I needed to reboot the system for something or other.  The system came back up with same drive missing, and network access vanished again.  Being a firm believer in trying what worked last time I deleted the network adapters and rebooted again -- and back came the network AND SO DID THE DRIVE.

I have to admit that, if anyone else reported this, my first reaction would be that they're mistaken...or nuts.  So, until I can figure this out I'm living in the Twilight Zone.

Skrommel: I think it supports unlimited number of menuitems 1&,9999&, but the AHK help file says six separate submenus 1&,2%,3%...6&.
Thanks.  I was getting an odd behaviour due to something else.  I should get into AHK but, if I do, it'll mean dumping the macro software that I've used for years...and reconstructing all of my macros (I sure hope I commented those properly!)  I don't want more than one such utility running.

Skrommel: By dock with the title bar, do you mean to be placed on the title bar, next to the min, max and close buttons? I originally made Barnacle as a movable toolbar, but decided it would be better to integrate it inside a window.
Sorry, I wan't being clear.  Yes, I do mean placed on the title bar.
There seems never to be enough screen space with image-editing software, no matter how much monitor real estate is available.  With Photoshop in standard screen mode the title bar is mainly wasted space.  For most applications, though, I think the integration into a window is preferable and it certainly works well with Photoshop in full-screen modes.
In a perfect world I guess Barnacle would toggle between the way it is now and being movable.

Thanks for your interest!

This is nice stuff for Photoshop!
Donation on the way.

from the ini file: Menu,1&,3&         Activates the 1st menu item, then the 3rd menu item.
Please would you tell me how many choices are currently possible for the sub-menu? I mean in the example above could the 3& be 14&?

Is it possible, or might it one day be possible to get the menu to dock within the titlebar?

I'm in.

Hello, I'm Chris Larcombe and I'm 60.
My expertise is in communications research.  I acted as an adviser to national and regional governments and also to most major companies in Canada (where I now live) and many others in the U.S. and the U.K.  These days I have fewer clients; that's because about 10 years ago I decided to begin a move towards retirement.
Programming was never more than a hobby for me.  When I first owned a personal computer it was a case of program what you need or use this lump of hardware as a quirky ornament.  Today, so much 'off-the-shelf' material is available that it's often better for me to use that.   Computers are an abiding interest of mine.
My wife is an artist.  She and I live in rural Ontario, some distance east of Toronto.  We have two dogs, a black German shepherd (Mars) and a wire-haired fox terrier (Ripley).  Having already enjoyed life in some major cities we now like the peace and space of country living.
Donation Coder provides some relaxation for me, and without the need to leave home.
I'm delighted to make your acquaintance.

I implemented this plan with several nice Nigerians who were kind enough to offer me some excellent money-making opportunities.  Should be able to retire shortly!
