You end up with Drupal I think :) What cant Drupal do? Very popular, very documented and quite easy to use.

Anyway, recently I was looking for something much less ambitious for a mini site and was close to jump at CMS Made Simple http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/ Yeah, they use SMF too ;) Mouser is right, you can waste days and not getting anywhere but actually most you can dismiss because of development speed, support. Many projects are halfdead it seems - not that many options if you look closer, for example at Opensourcecms http://www.opensourcecms.com/

If you want almost personal support check out Serendipity http://www.s9y.org/ Beats Wordpress by far if you ask me. So WP is getting there but was not first for sure. For example static pages, being able to move blocks about through administration is old news to s9y. Installation of plugins/themes is done through ADM and a thing called Spartacus - you see all stuff available and can pick and chose - also when uninstalling. Much easier than WP. Some problems due to being a tiny project but check forum and notice a certain "garwinhicking". Main coder dude and amazing. He see s9y more like a framework for whatever. I have only little clue about php, css above basic hacking level but I can modify s9y very easy - or go ask and I get answer, perhaps 1 hour later and likely from the man himself. s9y is still mainly blog so not a natural suggestion for what you ask but neither is Textpattern or WP - this can be extended as you please/are able to. If interested post your wishes at their forum and see what they say. Project has same problems any small project has so unless you find close to 100% confidence probably best to go Drupal, something else. The guy who invented php use s9y btw ;)

Should it or similar sized CMS meet requirements may be a good question what will be easier to maintain and develop - the massively documented project with endless options or the tiny one with fewer yet adequate? Projects sized as s9y, CMS Made Simple appeals 10 times more to me than WP, Drupal - simply easier to figure out problems.

Forgot Website Baker, another good one http://start.website...org/en/features.html similar size and probably more suiting requirements than s9y. Check forum again (also SMF here!)

What's the Best? / Re: Anti-Virus Package

I still only have Avast and still thinking I should pay up for NOD32, alternatively Antivir because of lower price. Check subscription fee, can level out - Antivir wants you to pay full price for new subscription I think. Ive had AV set up in strange ways but this email thing got me back to real time shield. 99.99% of the time annoying waste of computer power but... So if Im convinced I should use real time I should also use the best - email story tells me that is AV with heuristic filter.

I used to have 2 AVs, always Avast but at some point also Bitdefender free edition. Normal GUI is terrible and even with no real time still requires hungry services running. I turned all that off since it also comes with a command line scanner, almost hidden and undocumented for some reason. Can autoupdate itself so an entry in XP scheduler makes it a good 2nd check tool. Think I used a batch file and got incomings checked with both Avast and Bitdefender through command line, no real time shield. I could use 4 or 10, security still stinks in "theory" because of no real time shield.

I read on Wilders forum nag screen "hack" was mentioned on their own forum. If not probably a violation of something. Nothing more than telling XP to reject a certain file to run.

What is "necessary" can be argued f0dder. This email attachment I had to warn those family members about because I knew it was suspicious. Did not need Antivir to tell me. Next time Im fooled and then heuristic is necessary for me as well, heh. Question of evaluating risk and perhaps bending security term. Many can compute happily with no AV Im sure but I have doubts about myself and Avast so should act accordingly - does not help much that virus targeted the bank I use ;) Will help speed up tearful good bye to Avast.

What's the Best? / Re: Anti-Virus Package
« on: February 16, 2007, 02:21 PM »
Avast free - that's the one I tell non-savvy friends to use. It feels quite user friendly and the alerts and messages are usually quite good.

Yes, great and unique in many ways but does not have heuristic filter like free Antivir - which should be on level with NOD32. Also with false postivies from same filter (huge improvements lately and difference between being used or not). Until recently I would have said yeah well may be not all use 10 cracks a day, gets high on p2p etc. but an email has changed my view on what is needed. So an attachment got through ISP AV and also my Avast. On arrival only Antivir and NOD32 picked it up, thanks to heuristic filter. Day after Kaspersky and a few others got it. As more days went more AVs got thumbs up. Last 2 to get updated was Microsoft and Avast - almost 2 weeks later. Already on first day I sent file to Avast for inclusion in database. Tells a bit about how much resources Avast (can) put into updating. See their forum, not uncommon. Problem was not me since I knew attachment was a virus but 3 less computer crazy family member all with Avast installed, because of me. They use same ISP so I had to contact/warn them. Avast is foolproof as a program I think, very stable and customizable but sometimes you really need better detection - when ¤#¤%# happens.

A bit embarrassing for Avast since ISP soon after warned about the virus on frontpage and most other AV seem to get updated fairly quickly. Virus aimed at getting passwords and what not for home banking, I think this one even made it to international tech news, for a minute or two. Targeted banks are still counting how much money was lost, the thing worked!

I checked and compared AVs with Virus Total btw http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html

Actually Avast should have some heuristic filter for email and possibly a "high" sensitivity setting would have catched it. Normal definitely did not. They keep saying heuristic is not meaningful to implement because of false positive hell. If Im not mistaken just that used to be problem for Antivir. False positives can be risky if not dealt with correctly so concern not necessarily bad excuse. Some prove them wrong though. I tested Antivir and NOD32 for a couple of days, pop ups not really much of a problem - even on high setting.

I still have not kicked Avast out but going in that direction. May be ISP also should reconsider their choice of AV! Free Antivir is coming I guess, less features and colors - even payware version is pale compared to free Avast. NOD32 is just as good or better and you get Avast customization options for the money.

Nag screen when Antivir updates can be avoided - search for solution, I think even available on their own forum, for sure on Wilders forum http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ :)

General Software Discussion / Re: DC Toolbar...
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:46 PM »
Well if interested Im sure the ADM of this site will check out conditions before announcing any bar. Ive also not seen any meat on spyware claims but problem could be content of some toolbars falls back on Conduit? Besides the toolbar hate some have - only confirmed by you not exactly hiding the idea of "increasing revenue" ;) If you have read a bit on Mozilla forums you will know money plays a big part in arguments against Conduit, like having them on Add-on site. Many assumed ANY toolbar is a money machine by default, making "wrong" people rich. Exploiting Mozilla and taking advantage of innocent Firefox users (who cant think for them self)... Google use "Maximize your revenue" btw. http://www.google.com/intl/en/services/ Now Google is default search engine and there are restrictions because of that may be perception of Conduit will change. Google approval is always a good sign and who can say Google money is not good money?

No I can see buying license to Besttoolbars would increase options many times but yours could be licensed code from them - or inspired. Conduit appear to be light version of Besttoolbar. Easier and partly why it is free. I wonder how many are aware of the featureset those bars have and also if makers give information about all bar does!

It would but other players than Google - dont think a search engine is good example. Google probably would like to though! I just heard that woman in charge of PR saying reason they bought Youtube was embeeded clips are all over the web! Wikipedia must have caught their eyes as well so possible target. Can almost see a "Keep Wikipedia free"  movement ;) Some rich guy with no direct interests in internet services would be perfect.

Project with a fraction of Wikipedias impact/importance gets funded with much more money. May be they have such policies  "investors" have no interest and cry for help is based on reality? Usually such people want something in return, hard for Wikipedia to deliver perhaps.

They probably will imitate Mozilla - find some big daddy like Google and put worries to rest.

General Software Discussion / Re: DC Toolbar...
« on: February 11, 2007, 11:00 PM »
You mean a DC toolbar only useful for DC members and this site right? That was what I hinted might be a useful idea - for you to make with Conduit toolbar generator ;) Easy enough and a place like DC is just what they target.

Anyway, if we agree on a DC only bar that would be up to Mouser since he put name on the thing. So toolbar could enhance navigation for example, have menus for chosen subjects/parts of site and what not. All that is already available though fully customizable menu system (xml files) probably is hard to implement on site, could be done. Chat? also done. Sending out messages/ticker lines? What is wrong with email? I think a DC bar should do what Conduit encourage - promotion/exposure/marketing, revenue making. So Mouse should jump the wagon and think creatively on how-to make money - not that easy!

Some dont like toolbars at all, some dont like Conduit (which used to be Effectivebrand). But bar is optional, should of course not replace functionality of site like you have to get link to this crazy deal by installing toolbar. About Conduit they are also innocent until proven guilty when it comes to accusations - still offer 5000$, http://www.conduit.c...fiedSpywareFree.aspx Clever wording ("unless expressly required by its function") but still...

Why or why not you see clearly from this Techcrunch post http://www.techcrunc...r-about-conduit-yet/ especially from the comments. Typcial that one claims most of them are Israelis or from Conduit. Part of Conduit fanboys are spamking types, will do whatever it takes - check their forum. Wishful thinking but this idea of getting rich through a toolbar any idiot can make is just so cool! ;)

http://www.besttoolbars.net/ or http://www.besttoolb...s.net/featuresen.php might be the way to go, as one of the comments say why let Conduit in on sharing revenue? and no questioning of clickstats being sent to HQ in Israel. Does not matter they are harmless, some will not install bar because of this. Sooner than later someone will ask Mouse why he endorse and make money off spyware? - will happen, good luck explaining. Like Freeware vs. true Freeware or similar hopeless fights.

If you also think Conduit stuff looks very similar to Besttoolbar there are 2 of us. I think they have licensed code from them.

You can access toolbar properties (to read or write) via JavaScript and also pass this information to the server in response to the user clicking a button or menu item in the toolbar. Properties available from JavaScript include current version of the toolbar, Unique Toolbar ID, User ID that you can set/read, user name and user password primary aimed to implement authentication through the toolbar, toolbar settings and configuration. The current URL and current domain that the user has open in their browser are also accessible.

Oh yeah, except Conduit deny to have any interest in urls :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Clipboard a la Clipmarks?
« on: February 10, 2007, 08:17 PM »
As with Google Notebook you decide if clips are private or public. Sharing not a requirement. Read their policy, blog http://www.clipmarks.com/privacy-policy/ http://clipmarks.wordpress.com/ Search for experiences. No need to sit and wait for disaster - or expect disaster. Nothing indicates they are evil. Works pretty well. When they first appeared someone said it was a cool idea but must be hard to keep up interest for the community part - I agree though site is nicely build. Has improved a lot, Digg-like but clips? All I can say is I dont feel a great need to use Clipmarks but works ok.

Recently I think Google changed default setting with their Notebook from public to private. Turned out some people saved bank account etc. in public/indexed/searchable Notebooks! Same with Google Calendar, share or not is up to you.

Google Notebook is less flashy so may be try it out. Latest version is more useful than old, now easier to organize and work with during "noting". Something about being able to pop out collection window, a little new arrow do that. You will see.

Alternative to Evernote, Scrapbook which only works for Firefox is Net Snippets http://www.netsnippe....com/basic/index.htm

I read something about Yahoo/Flickr investigating what colors people react to - part of profiling. And Google knows everything already :) If you keep personal/important data locally I dont think you need to worry. To worry about them getting your Gmail Address (of course you have more than one and use a special for sign-ups right?) is wasted time. Being careful about content like treating personal info differently than "public" is just good sense, always think about that. Same goes for local computer, if I stole yours tomorrow what will I get/learn? Encryption and similar thoughts of storageing sensitive info is way to go. Worst scenario with Clipmarks is they close down and you lose all content! Good idea to check if service is steaming ahead before signing up.

Also remember they could not care less about you, you are not interesting as a person. We are all simple IPs/advertising targets in the eyes of machinery. Perhaps some services are interested in your money/plastic card, encouraging you to sign up for "Pro" type of account. That is all. If you cant keep hands off the goodies and still dont trust "them" then spread wings. Use some Yahoo, some Google, some Clipmarks etc. Harder to profile worlds most interesting person unless of course there is a master service we dont know about yet, heh. Profiling for what purpose btw? Be careful not to exaggerate risk because of Big Brother/what if? lingo. If profiling is not used for evil but necessary advertising it is part of the service, like Google learning spelling mistakes and suggest more "intelligently" the more you use it - and of course "manipulating" search results based on my history. Probably also about advertising in the end.

Anti-phishing feature in Firefox/IE7 is nice right? You are aware each and every url is sent MS/Google? You think solution is to disable? Your ISP already has same info. Talking about profiling makes you dizzy... You end up frustrated, unplugging computer from internet so dont and definitly laugh at email harvesting. Gmail even have great spam filter should Clipmarks decide to sell addresses to spammers.

[...personal info removed by moderator..]

Online identity matching real one is perhaps something to think about, must be if you are scared on behalf of email address. Actually you should go "Whatever, come get me" I hope you do.

109
I understand and as said you can buy Toolbar generator, a crappy looking one here http://www.besttoolb...Xao4oCFSoMQgod_3yKvA Ive seen a much better one but cant find it right now, was quite costly like 70-80$ at least. Foxytunes is probably unique but many have got to be build on generator. Rankquest toolbar for example https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1471/ Not made from scratch I think, nothing wrong in that.

As a service anyone can use I believe Conduit is alone. Sure they make money but much depend on usage. Since I block all ads, and the few I see is not considered clickable I would be a bad customer. Possible they make money just by me installing toolbar, details of their agreement with Google not available. Plenty are more into these things. Considering how internet works and looks today I dont think you should get all upset about their Google box. Same with tracking of clicks but some will disagree. Remember content is up to you not forced by Conduit or Google.

Thinking of DC bar it must also be compatible with both IE and Firefox - more coding if someone would start from A and not take advantage of generator. Bad enough Conduit dont support Opera.

110
Well what you get out of the box I can live with. That is Google search box and the phoning home. Would be happier without both but then no toolbar. Rest is your contribution. What you can "blaim" Conduit for is default not users creativity. They have no worries offering that 5000$ award. Ive heard all the arguments of "unique toolbar ID and click tracking equals spying" - BS for all I know. When you make a toolbar you also get access to a page full of stats - which is what tracking is used for. Also for setting up chat, sending out messages through their servers, updating. Some feature simply requires identification. Many services you sign up for have some personal information, like Google of course. They all claim/promise not to misuse that info. Words. What it comes down to is history/trust. Has Conduit, or Google for that matter, ever been in trouble? Eh, Conduit do have a dark history but has seen the light. Relationship between toolbars and spamming/spyware (look them up, old name EFFECTIVEBRAND) is of no importance Im sure ;)

Also note that no AV/Spyware company have Conduit toolbar in their database, not a current version  Code is clean as you also say. Does not mean all content is or that it runs smoothly.

About the advertising I have the feeling most either dont care about who gets a cut or are in the game them self. I hate all that, including stupid ads on majority of sites/blogs. I block them with pleasure. When they serve a purpose like supporting a site and not just attempts to earn easy money Im all for it. Not really any use in fighting ads in general is there? So a DC toolbar would be ok. No matter how that would turn out Conduit will smile since they have share in EVERY Google result page! DC bar could use own links/deals to other search services. Conduit want to cover them self and so Google box is a requirement. Im not updated on latest Conduit news, may be they have changed policy but be sure they will always benefit. The more users the more benefits and why promotion is so important.

111
Firefox and radio means Active-X plugin! Then you are doomed ;) May be not, from what I can tell Active-X plugin for Firefox is pretty safe and only useful for implementing Media Player functionality, not like you have IE inside. Probably some possible exploits I would imagine but dont worry too much about that.

112
No does not work that way. If author updates toolbar you will be notified and directed to the mentioned unique homepage for toolbar. Mozilla Add-on site interfered with that setup but never was important for updating - just a way of promoting toolbar. Another reason why they did not belong there, toolbar can be updated with potentially bad code regardless of it being on Add-on site.

Takes you 1-2 minutes to sign up at Conduit - 5 minutes more and you are toolbar author. Ive considered making one for some family members but since I dont trust stability 100% Ive avoided. But fun to experiment. As a communication tool it is nice alternative/addition to email, IM - if Mouser made a DC-bar he could send out messages, adjust menus to direct users to current relevant pages etc. Has a bit of everything, more than just some link buttons.

So you wont have any contact with Google either I guess? If you can live with toobar phoning home click stats then rest is just plain sharing of advertising revenue. How internet works and Conduit try to exploit it. Problem is if someone base whole toolbar on such "shared" links and not only the default Google box. Then it becomes a money machine and that is bad ;) Sure is if not transparent to users who benefits. Yesterday I was at another forum where someone asked for a program to make logos. Some clown posted a link to whatever program. Ok but link was not to program site but to his own where it could be bought through an affiliate deal = he gets 5$ or something. Stuff like that is evil noise and all over internet in some form or another. Of course maker of program has made up that deal, they are all for it. Question is how transparent money flow is to user. Could say "Support my wallet by buying clicking this link" or something. When not clear I assume something fishy is going on. Money overrules anything...

113
Search box = sharing ads revenue with Google (and before that Ask.com) - why it cant be disabled :) When you search results dont pop up on a regular Google page but a fixed one.

Dont understand how entry got removed either. Long time ago Ive had similar ghost entrie problem and solution was to reinstall then uninstall - or hunt down keys in registry, may be use a toolbar inspector type of program. Same applies to normal program not uninstalling correctly I guess. Well it is gone.

I meant you could make a DC toolbar. None available I assume. Fire up the generator and publish. May be some can make use of the more advanced html features, I think you can even insert some scripting. Perhaps best if Mouser was author if there really have to be some sponsored revenue making ;) We cant have Curt getting rich on exploiting DC right? See the problem when money gets involved? Tempting? Sure is for some people. Author of the most popular toolbar, 10000s if not 100000s of installations, have shown what appears to be big fat monthly checks from Google and others - he makes a fortune. Personal effort is minimal. Find catchy theme/subject/topic and off you go hunting users - check their promotion help on how-to. Anyone can do it. Part of what created the invisible anti-Conduit movement and Im sure one of the reasons they were pulled off Mozilla site.

There is mile long thread at Mozillazine forums about this should you be interested or very bored. May be you get confused about what I mean since I also post in that. But I got provoked by tossers who claim Conduit is clearly spyware by any definition, have paid off Mozilla Adms to get top spots at Add-on site and much more. There is a weirdo consensus one has to deal with at Mozillazine, like the idea Firefox users are pure angels which must be saved from evil by a select few enlightened heroes... meanwhile Google is making Mozilla rich through exact same scheme namely getting a cut from searching! I like the toolbars, cool to play, with some creativity useful. Have doubts about how much overhead they add to browser, memory - cpu usage - stability. Ive had mixed experiences. Probably depends on content as well as toolbar itself.

They have nothing to do at Add-on site because they are not extensions. "Author" has no or only little relationship to installed code, can not offer suppport, is not responsible for privacy policy etc. A big mess but all comes down to where code comes from I think. So good move they got kicked out. Conduit already have a gallery of toolbars and every one gets own unique url/homepage for promotion purposes. Mozilla Add-on site just another display.

114
Missed your post. Why dont you make a Donationcoder toolbar btw?

Well more than a "image" though I perhaps accused your toolbars too directly. Idea of Conduit is not to save the world but a business idea, dont forget that. Also why they just changed the ever so important search engine to Google - sponsored search, Google nicer to share with than Ask I guess. Same toolbar generator used for your safe bars is also used for the "bad". Some toolbars take advantage of what is possible, check out features, and are less than transparent doing it. Sponsored/redirecting links etc. are all over the place so not unique to Conduit - but they also do it or offer the ability to at least. Check their slideshow on how to promote bar. What does that tell you about intentions? Even their site spells it out - this is very much about advertising and revenues. I understand "So what?" but be careful about approving all 10000s of toolbars.

What Im talking about you also see on their forums, banner/link/redirect/ad-tossers seeking answer to "how to make money". The bad side of Conduit is represented and same reason why ALL Conduit bars recently were thrown out of Mozilla Add-on site. Besides being questionable as "true" extensions "authors" played the (weak) system and bumped their stuff to top by changing date for entry. Of course they did.

Technically you should not be so sure there is nothing to worry about with those bars. Mozilla have dumped them before because of bad code, look it up at Bugzilla - cross domain injection or something. They fixed bugs/features and got approved again. As I said should you notice anything strange, remember them. You dont control content, author does so it can change with next update. I did not say they would crash browser and you are doomed ;) And yes they do send each and every click back to HQ, not the same as spying in my book but some see it differently. I believe they once again put up the famous 5000$ reward for proof of Conduit spying on users. No one can claim the money Im sure but why did they feel a need to make a case out of being clean? Reward trick is missing the point of content being questionable - Conduit is not responsible for users code! Also I think toolbar generator is bought from another company, not Conduits product as such. Same machinery behind most toolbars made for IE/Firefox I bet. I forget name, should be easy to locate. You can find toolbar entries in for example Symantec virus database but Conduit say they are due to other companies doing, through licensing generator... Content is what matters.

Actually I think Conduit can be compared to Google in the way they are evaluated. Hell or heaven... Im voting heaven given the choice but take small steps and check them out before installation.

115
They have changed file to XPI instead of JAR in latest version http://www.deviantar.../deviation/41889409/ "This should make the install much easier for all users."

116
Use Keyconfig for shortcut manipulation http://www.extension...254&hl=keyconfig install the "bumped" version.

Use MAF for mht files http://maf.mozdev.org/index.html not compatible with Firefox 2 but should work after being "bumped" I just tried it and it seems to work. Use attachment for installation, is pre-bumped. Rename file to maf-0.6.3.xpi before installation - forum dont allow xpi extension so it changed to faked zip. Bumping just means changing a value called "maxversion required" in a file. XPI is like zip or jar, lots of files inside. Usually extensions with maxversion 1.5 works with 2 or higher but no guarantees. Best to find alternative but I dont know any but MAF for this. Once installed go to tools menu, pick "Mozilla Archive Format" set your preferences and check if it works.

Have to mention Scrapbook, mother of all browser scrapbooks http://amb.vis.ne.jp...ok/index.php?lang=en Perhaps useful.

Dont think Ive seen more than a handful of really good Firefox themes - plenty are ugly and often something broken even if just a button for not supported extension. So I prefer default though less than full of life. But certainly better with Opaque + Cleartabs https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3839/ Should not break anything since not much is changed. One of the supported themes is Mostly Crystal https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1905/ - should default be out of the question. Probably better to hunt down whatever you want at Add-ons site instead of Customize.org, go for what appears to be supported.

117
More a startpage thingy like Netvipes, Protopage I think. Very cool but keep eye on memory usage 8) Takes more than a little to scare me but when I last tried this I was a little surprised.

They keep a gallery of public pages ready to test http://dir.yourminis...g&t=week&p=1

118
I guess that would be the article talked about in Security Now 74 http://www.twit.tv/sn74 and later when Microsoft responded http://windowsvistab...ons-and-answers.aspx in 77 http://www.twit.tv/sn77 They are old ladies those 2 but also nice topic to gossip about.

Also pops up Windows Weekly 11 http://www.twit.tv/ww11

If I remember correctly they conclude MS have bend over to content providers, no alternative to following their wishes. Not if company is MS and product Windows. Fighting them is real issue - some bugfixes, may be even servicepack for Vista is to be expected ;)

Why did Viacom (once again) pull tons of videos from Youtube? Even Google become the little guy with these protection issues.

119
Dont know product but if I was interested I would search "defensewall" at Wilders Security http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php They compare like crazy and hits will present alternatives, better or not. Perhaps you really want free Sandboxie but didnt realize it  8)

Anyway, judging from 10 min racing around hits it seems to be among "approved" programs. Perhaps easier to use and lighter on resources than the rest.

Also check out their forum http://gladiator-ant...ex.php?showforum=193 improved GUI is under way. Alive and kicking. Keeping a changelog of major problems acknowledged and fixed is also a plus.

"Ilya Rabinovich" is author of program so check all his posts at Wilders http://www.wildersse...finduser&u=38272 not sure link works but click his username in posts from defensewall search. Sure he is promoting but as with the changelog thread it is also showing an interest. If program was crap and author only spamming away he would not survive there for long, 244 posts is enough to show colors. He seems to be ok http://www.wildersse...830&postcount=18 though a signature showing he represent Defensewall would be nice, strange Wilders dont require that.

How easy it is to live is probably going to decide use or not so make use of Wilders accumulated security "gossip". Of course get trial today, you have 1-2 days to test locally if offer is time limited to 24 hours. Here is link to the 10$ "prolongation" fee for "lifetime" license https://www.plimus.c...p?contractId=1653997

120
http://yuiblog.com/b...ideo-hewitt-firebug/ extremely boring or video of the day but good presentation of Firebug by author himself. 100% brilliant if one has the need. Linked video from clicking top picture has better quality than from embedded.

At the end he says something about Firebug "Lite" being first attempt at IE/Opera version and project is open source and "waiting".

121
Get a replacement but perhaps hard if you mean the big one from Yahoo https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3615/ Breaking smartsearch or any build in features has to be a bug unless replaced with something better.

Dont think too much of the lousy points for Yahoo extension - just shows it is going through development, see "all previous releases at bottom". A fix is probably on the stairs.

Just create a new profile to test for extension mess. Sometimes they interact in mysterious ways. Have to disable one by one or better the opposite on new profile.

122
Firefox 2 cant zoom like Opera or IE7. Firefox 3 should fix this, dont know if current test versions are ready. Much requested feature so they better get it working.

Keyword searching is covered though http://kb.mozillazin...ing_keyword_searches for most searches all you have to do is rightclick in any search form, like the one on top of this page. Save those special bookmarks in a quicksearch folder or similar.

A few extensions can list keywords in sidebar or popup window, Ive used one of those, Keywordbar or something. However Smartbar is more useful http://forums.mozill...ewtopic.php?t=513292 Also limits need for organizing keyword bookmarks. If you use many searchengines try SmartSearch http://www.pitt.edu/...firefox/smartsearch/ read whole description.

You could also improve on WMP MP3 encoding, upgrade it to proffessional. Already on hd so no need for more.

Go to System32 folder then rename l3codeca.acm to l3codeca.bak. Then copy l3codecp.acm to l3codeca.acm.

From this thread http://forum.videohe...+player+mp3+registry and still works with WMP11 - I just did it. Fraunhofer should say 3.4.0(build 0) in about box and encoding options be unlimited where ever you want to use it, not limited to any app. Almost freeware from Microsoft. I found this trick when I had problems with LAME, Fraunhofer just worked a lot better with the tv-software I used at the time.

Ive never really been into extensive codec use but enough to have messed up. There are tools to sort out codec conflicts but very complicated. Can get to a point where you must reinstall OS! Much more than MMcompView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mmview.html is complicated to me. Less is better is what Ive found, let VLC take care of strange videos.

Probably unfair to warn against codec packs because some could be tested really well. But do they conflict with what editing tool install or not? Do they uninstall properly?

Ive dumped Quicktime Alternative, even Real Time Alternative. Not really much of a difference but of course you have to disable a bit to avoid a few startup tasks. Not a big problem. Even Real Time does not seem intrusive, have to go through settings though. Some question of legality with QA since it is a real "Pro" version with serial number punched in. Might bother you. DivX much the same, disable everything but codec itself during installation and what is difference to any pack?

May be this show what intentions they have http://www.podtech.n...custom-search-engine Some weeks since I watched it but I think co-op is more about specialized/customized search than trying to take over regular site search. Lot of details in video, that I do remember.

By the time you read this you could have send out 50 invitations  8) Fastest and easiest way of is jumping on ready to go stuff like Google/Yahoo/whatever Group thingy or fixed forum hosting like the one for phpbb etc. You cant go much above shoutbox level if you feel copy and pasting some email addresses is overkill. If you have own server and special needs there are probably better options, lots of scripts available. Not likely to be easier for you or members.
