ok...I did a little searching on the web and I get the impression a large file would need to be pushed on a "streaming server" vs "HTTP streaming".
I don't want to chop the file into smaller sizes if I can avoid it.
Does anyone know if any of the so-called streaming SOFTWARE is a reasonable alternative to a streaming server?
Any comments on providing the video by 'progressive downloading' or how this is done?
I work for a small, low budget company and I would expect not more than ten people (more likely one or two) viewing the video at any given time.

I recently puchased BB Flashback, taking advantage of the great DC discount. I then created an swf of a software demo for my company website but it turned out to be a whopping 15 MEG.
Obviously this will take too much time for impatient viewers (like me) to wait for.
I was wondering if it is possible to set up a screecast to play a large file on a website without having the visitor's flash player download the file, or does the visitor always need a player on their machine that downloads the flash?
For example, I noticed that the nice new Locate and KeePass mini-reviews load very quickly on DC and appear to be playing "on" the DC website. How big are these files?
Thanks, jdd

I appreciate the suggestion but this is not what I had in mind and does not take advantage of the plug in which is designed is to open the backed up database on startup and save it on close. I was hoping to conjure an AHK script that would run the exectubale utilizing the plugin dll.

Another Backup Plugin (ABP) is a plugin for the KeePass password manager. ABP automatically copies the initially-opened password database to one or more backup files, so that the passwords can be recovered in case of loss. I was wondering if anyone uses this or knows how to write an AKH to start the program using the command line arguments as described at http://home.hvc.rr.com/billrubin/HelpABP/. I'd like to have it automatically backup to this location C:\Documents and Settings\jdd\My Documents\My KeePass Database Backup but I can't seem to get the script right.

Carol, I have the paid X1 Desktop versino and have been holding out waiting for comments on this new "free" Enterprise before I switch over. Can you explain what you meanby these "value added" features that are pissing you off? This doesn't happen in the old paid version. Is the Yahoo deselection ineffective?

Thanks Mouser and tinyvillager. I've got some homework ahead of me....I tried downloading some flash with with Flashget but it was not as intuitive as I exepcted it to be. I guess I'll have to play around with it a little more.
Since I hadn't yet downloaded URL Snooper, maybe it will work better when I've done some snooping.
And finally, I also found the last free version of Net Transport so I'll have to give that a whirl as well. I'll report back later.
thanks, jdd

I am a long time user of X1 Desktop edition. Last week, I received an email from X1 announcing the change to a free Enterprise client. One of the comments in the attachment bothered me and I was wondering if anyone know what they meant by this statement.
“…..While you may want one of the new features, you may need functionality that is only available in versions prior to this release…..”
I looked in the release notes and they only tell you what the program WILL do, it does not necessarily mention what has been left out.
Any comments from existing users that have 'upgraded' to the free version would be greatly appreciated. I run X1 on a laptop so I have no interest in server or network related changes.

DonationCoder.com Software / Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Print large pictures on multiple pages
|
on: June 18, 2006, 09:15:17 AM

I have a need to print some of these things so I would like to offer DonationCoder credits in exchange.
Background:
Screenshot Captor does a great job of autoscrolling to capture long web pages. The issue is that the images can be long and narrow, and when printed out as hard copy on a single page is completely illegible.
Challenge:
This may be an impossible task but……. Provide a method to print a hard copy of the captured autoscrolled image, or break the image into multiple images that can be printed. (It’s all about printing image files of different “lengths”).
Reward:
a.) 91 Donation Credits for writing new code to create AutoscrollPrint, or
b.) 45 Donation Credits for identifying existing freeware that achieves the same goal
The best solution (may or may not be the first submittal) will be the winner
Bonus:
10% Bonus if a lame Haiku is not included with the winning entry
Other Requirements: - The solution must be automated or semi-automated and work with images of different “lengths”.
- Winning entry should include final output of the Test File as a pdf, or multiple images created from the Test File that are suitable for printing.
- The print out should be legible on standard letter or legal size paper.
- Anything that involves manual cropping is not acceptable.
