Screenshot Captor / Ragged Edges effect as standalone app
« on: April 30, 2018, 11:45 AM »
Mouser, I LOVE the ragged edges effect produced by Screenshot Captor.  Is it possible to make this into a standalone application?
(another thing I would like is that it would remember my last-used settings)

I've used this one for my server rack and liked it so much I got another one for another server rack.  They don't cost very much, and can hook up FOUR machines to a single monitor and keyboard.  It works VERY well.  I'd buy another one without thinking about it and without ever searching for alternatives.  For $40, I was WELL-PLEASED.

I just wire it to the rack behind all the equipment, and then use double-stick-padded-tape to stick the switcher to the front of the rack.  Push the button to switch, and voila!  Joy!  I love it!

tomos - thanks - no - there was a post all in Russian earlier today.  It must have been spam, and Mouser must have deleted it.

Thanks for the lead!  I'll try it out.  Actually, if I had the source for RSS Builder, I would fix it myself.  But I'll try this one out and let you know what I think.

Maybe nobody here maintains an rss feed?

We have a local LAN website and I keep an RSS Feed there for some technical news.
It is a bit painful to edit those feed.xml files manually, so I use a program called RSS Builder.
Problem is that it is ancient, has no Recent Menu, no drag-n-drop, etc, and no updates for 10 years.

So I would love to find a good alternative.  Free is important.
I've tried all the free ones I can find via websearch and like RSS Builder the best of all, but I still don't like even that one.
Now, I would make my own, but I don't have the time.
Ideas, anyone?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Copy BOTH image and path simultaneously
« on: April 03, 2018, 10:30 AM »
Thanks, lainB, for the info there - but SC *already* saves the image file to a directory.  Also, I *can* fetch the last file path as text via a commandline to SC.
(presently, I have SC keep the bitmap on the clipboard, and I have a button on my taskbar to send commandline to SC for the filepath; but I have a couple of issues with this that I won't bring up here).

But what I was proposing is a bit different.
I am wanting BOTH the bitmap AND the file path on the SAME clipboard.

Windows Clipboard is capable of handling more than one kind of data format on clipboard simultaneously.  For example, when you copy something from MS Word and paste it into MS Word, it is pasted as rich-text; but if you paste it into notepad it is pasted as plain text.  MS Word will let you choose to paste as richtext OR plaintext - so you can see the different formats present.

If I could have the bitmap AND the text on the clipboard then I would not have to issue any new commands to have the data when I want it.  It would just be there.

Thanks for considering it!  This is Sacred Triduum anyway (starting tomorrow).

Screenshot Captor / Copy BOTH image and path simultaneously
« on: March 28, 2018, 12:13 PM »

Here is my feature request:  add another post-capture option which will copy BOTH the image data AND the file path of the screenshot file to the clipboard together at the same time.

The Windows clipboard is capable of holding more than one kind of format simultaneously - I'm sure you know that.

Here is my reasoning for usage:
I take a screenshot, most of the time I immediately paste the image into my email to embed the image.
But about half the time I need the file path instead and I usually need to paste it into a file-browser dialogue.
If both formats were on the clipboard, the file-browse dialogue would only accept the text anyway - so having the image data won't affect that - AND I wouldn't have to fetch the path manually.
For non text-only applications, the image data should get pasted.

It's an idea; I'm sure there are complications.  What do you think?

Hi, tomos; uh, I don't have a tradition, per se.  I like Fra Angelico, though.

Living Room / Image attachment problems
« on: March 20, 2018, 09:34 PM »
I have tried three times to post a handful of images.  Once I accidentally attached a .psd file, another time a .tif, the last time one (or all) were too large.  Every time the editor undoes *all* of the attachments instead of just the offenders.  I've already spent 15 minutes.  I'll try again later, maybe.

It says the server is not found.  If it were being blocked by our firewall, there would be a firewall page.
Tried in two different browsers.
I can't ping it, either.

Could be my connection.  Or maybe something in between.  I'll try again tomorrow.

When you run this program today (years later) it says this on the first run.

The API does not appear to be accessible at this time.  Please try this application again when the website is available.  Apologies for the inconvenience.

Say, I know this program is a few years old, but I wanted to try it for one single show's series: Star Wars Rebels.

Apparently, the server is no longer available.  Here' my screenshot of the website.

« on: March 03, 2018, 07:33 PM »
Oh, and I have another idea.
At the bottom of the Clips Tab, there is Copy Window Text, but who really ever wants to copy *everything* like that?
What if there was a button for "Copy Entry" or "Copy Line"?
Then you could put the cursor on the line you wanted and copy everything between delimiters with one button without having to select the text.

I was using ClipX for the longest time, but then something happened - I don't know what - and it was breaking my ctrl+C key and I couldn't copy anything anymore unless I closed it.  Strange.  But if there was "Copy Line" in ClipTrap, I wouldn't need another clipboard program.

Skwire, I have an idea for ClipTrap.
Since ClipTrap makes archives of the last X number of text files, what if there was an option or command to open that folder in Explorer?
It would be easy to implement.

Thanks, 4wd, but I couldn't find anything to work with my chip.

I ended up getting a pcie card.  Maybe it will work out; we'll see!

My laptop is dead and I want to copy the data from the hard drive - except that the hard drive is an M.2 SSD chip with M key configuration.

I can't even find an adapter to read it with.
The BEST I can come up with is a PCIE card to fit it into my computer - but I don't want that. I also found this one, which accomodates all three m.2 styles.
I'm looking for some external adapter or chip or something.

I have an external SATA bay, if I could find some way to hook it to that.

I did find this, but I'm kind of afraid to shop on this site, and it's out of stock anyway.

Any advice, anyone?  I'm rather stuck.

Ah, maybe this! It will take x2 m-key chips and has a 3.5" SATA interface!

Yeah, I wouldn't use this procedure for an image gallery.  I've used it to store images for buttons in certain javascript applications (like InDesign Extendscript or Firefox Custom Buttons) where you don't want external files, and I use it myself for images in email signatures.  The value of this is that you can store the image inside the code - so it would be best for smallish type icons.

However, to avoid 117-line strings, you could always disable wordwrap in your text editor!  hahahaaa

General Software Discussion / Resource Scheduler
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:04 PM »
For some time now I have wanted to make a web-based application (in javascript - but I love jquery) whereby resources can be scheduled.
My premise is this:

Now, Ath has made a nifty bedroom-planner application (for scheduling bunkers, perhaps at a camp) which is similar, and I sort of unwittingly hijacked his NANY thread, so I am starting my own here.

Here is my premise.
(If you haven't read my profile, by the way, I am a Catholic Religious Brother, hence the nature of my premise)

We have here at our house 9 altars.
We have several priests stationed here, and often have visiting priests, and they all need to say Mass everyday.  It is my job to schedule them for a time and an altar.
Normally, a priest only says one Mass per day, but in some larger chapels they might say two.  I also have to schedule altar boys to serve for them.

Presently, I print out a big table and fill everything in by hand since it changes alot.  I used to do this in excel, but it is clumsy to cut and paste.

What I envision for the web application is this:
The user first enters in the names of all the priests so there is a list.
There are preset timeslots. Each Mass lasts about 45 minutes with preparation time.
The altar boys may serve at one time or another, so there needs to be a way to specify which times they are available (depends on their own schedules).

I want to be able to see a sort of layout of timeslots for each altar, and then drag and drop the name of the priest onto a time slot.  The same for the altar boys, but they need to somehow marked as available or not for a particular slot.  The idea is to drag and drop.  When a priest is placed into a slot, he is removed from the waiting list.  The server remains in the servers list if he is available for another time.

I would like to be able to change the calendar from day to week to month.
Also, it is a necessity that I be able to print the week chart so I can hang it in the Sacristy for everyone to see in the mornings when they say Mass, so they know where to go.

So far, I have found this resource calendar framework on github that can provide the calendar part.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.

Hi, nogojoe - wow, that is very generous of you!  I wasn't trying to get anyone to get this going for me - really, I was just talking (if it were a javascript-based web-application, I could modify it to suit my needs and the needs of our other chapels, too).  Maybe I should start a new thread though, because now we aren't talking about Ath's nice bedtime application.

I started my own thread here.
Thanks for your interest, y'all.

Ath, so, 9 altars, normally, the priests would all say Mass simultaneously at two times, say, 6:30 and 7:14 - taking about 45 minutes with preparations.  But then there will be later Masses at other times intermittently.  Yes, each priest can only say Mass once; although in some chapels where there a lot of people a priest might say two Masses on the main altar, although this isn't the case at the place where I am stationed.

I've searched for planner type applications to track this before and never really found what I was looking for.  I still haven't abandoned the idea of writing something myself.
