Find And Run Robot / Re: "Fuzzy matching" during dir lists
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:58 AM »
Thank you  An option is fine by me if it slows down the searching a bit. If it's hardly noticable I'd say you can just make it standard.

A short reply please mouser, is it possible yes or no :-[?

It was disabled by default, however, because it was causing some problems.

Unfortunately I do not have any experience using the 'Result Filter for RegEx' feature. I hope someone else - like Mouser - can help you :)

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 30, 2008, 07:31 PM »
I see. I just think it takes way too much time this way :) One more suggestion: Google/Microsoft Desktop Search. They work quite well, and can search in documents as well which is nice. Obviously they would complement, and not replace, farr. I don't use these programs myself, but that's mainly because I use FARR alot more to RUN stuff than to FIND it (I always know where stuff is that I want to run) ;)

I got it off regular-expressions.info, here.

You can use (?:regex) to use a non-capturing group.

In your case ^(?:vid|vids|video|videos) (.*)

Works fine iff you change %SystemRoot% to C:\Windows\ or equivalent for your system. Clearly it should work with the environment variable but as a temporary solution I guess you should just use the absolute path, or is it not possible?

Changing the launch method didn't fix the problem.

Well I am pretty sure I was the last poster at that time so something is not right. I'll use this post to test.

Nope I can't:

please add a 'remove msg' feature, I accidently quoted my previous msg here instead of modified it, but I can't remove this

that's funny, I have the options "Quote/Modify/Remove"

It's not funny at all, it's very sad! Anyway, I suppose you won't believe me so here's proof:

I am in favor of the pipe character, |, to split search terms from arguments. It just looks nice, as in it really splits the right and left part, so program from parameters :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Missing inital "myaliases.alias" file
« on: August 24, 2008, 07:21 PM »
Isn't this the desired behavior? When you just installed farr there are obviously no aliases that you added, and the file is created once you create a new entry. Seems fine to me.

Find And Run Robot / Re: rename from FARR window

Farr can do it too, I never use Windows Explorer to navigate and search files anymore anyway so I wouldn't use this. But I guess some people would like this, thanks for sharing :)

Kinda lame to make XP look like Vista though ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: How to view more search results?
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:24 PM »
Mouser, something I'd like you to think about is adding the question mark after the query to display all results. And I mean adjacent to the query, no space. Windows filenames cannot contain the question mark anyway so this will not interfere with any search terms. Again, just think about it, it popped into my head and I'm not sure if it is usable, but it's much better than [space] +sall, and imho slightly better than [space] +a ;)

Plus, if you actually need to see all results as a user you are not very good at remembering the filename, so you are basically asking farr to locate it for you, hence the question mark :P

Find And Run Robot / "Fuzzy matching" during dir lists
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:13 PM »
Mouser, I noticed that FARR does not use the so called 'fuzzy matching' during directory listings, like it does during reglar searching. Just for those who are not familiar with the term; fuzzy matching allows 'ora' to match Opera, while normal matching only matches a complete substring. So to get Opera you can type 'ope', 'era', etc, but not 'ea'. I guess it's clear now :)

Anyway, since FARR always searches its search folders real-time (using fuzzy matching), why is it not possible to do so during directory listings (even though those directories are not in the search folders)?

Needless to say it would be great to be able to fuzzy match in dir listings :-*

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FCalc/FarFox Plugin Delays
« on: August 24, 2008, 05:02 PM »
On a side note, why did you add all those folders to your search folders? Doesn't it make farr very slow, as it has to search %programfiles% and %windir% all the time? Shortcuts to programs should be placed in the start menu, which should be searched, but why the %programfiles% folder itself?

It might be better for your to use a launcher which does index files, not search all folders during keystrokes, like Launchy.

94
I just noticed in Options you added it :-* Thanks. I don't think it was added to the changelog though.

For anyone interested; you can enable this feature by going into Settings > Display Settings > Result Label Extension > only dir listings.

95
And FARR should look prettier to appeal to a wider audience ;) I think it's features are pretty much unmatched but farr looks kinda ugly compared to other launchers (Launchy, Dash etc).

96
I am sorry I did not express myself very clearly there ;) I meant making TucknDar's suggestion an option.

97
lol I never realized farr actually has fuzzy search :D but good to know. making it an option is fine, just don't make it default as I am sure some people wouldn't like it, like myself :)
