Hi, I am just currious. Has anybody started on coding local dictionary search? It would be wonderful if it cooperated with tab files, babylon files and stardict files or at least some of them . I have many dictionaries and have to use stardict now which I do not like... farr plugin would be much better!

it would only be 1 extra press of enter, but ok fair enough..

yes but still ...
it changes the feeling...
i personnaly never use alt+# or ctrl+#

i usually search/type until the result i want is first
otherwise i use the arrows to select the second or third result...

i don't think many people use alt+# or ctrl+#, i already suggested to use alt and ctrl to modify the enter behavior...
ex : alt+enter, launch selected result and STAYOPEN
shift+enter, to queue the selected result
ctrl+enter, to open the shell context menu
etc...

and when the time comes that one will be able to select multiple items... this will still works !

that would be very usefull

It does not sound very fast to ask each time whether to launch or to queue ?

agreed, the default behavior should not change, FARR is the fastest and should remain the fastest 

i suggest shift+enter to queue an item, which is an often seen hotkey (multimedia player...)
i also suggest that one could select multiple items !!!

currently the only way to exclude extensions is to give them high negative scores as mentioned; i have been thinking though that in the search directory list it might be nice to be able to specify for each directory which file extensions to include or exclude.

that would be great...
it is one of the very few things i prefer in launchy over FARR

since it helps reducing the number of wrongly searched items

sorry i did not elaborate a lot since i was a bit puzzled...

well i guess dosearch has a strange behavior:

now i'm trying the following:

Snippets Projets $$1 | dosearch c:\_snippets\txt_snippets_projets\$$1\ +open_snippets -alias -.ini +. $$2

this alias should be triggered when typing :
sp 122 --keyword
in the alias edit box this says MATCH

but in real life :
sp 122 --keyword
does not work

BUT
sp 122--keyword
DOES

seems like dosearch does something strange


the more i think about it, the more i think there should be a way to create dynamic aliases
now i understand that my idea of specifying the result of an alias inside a text file is not enough...
we also need a way to refresh/reload those particular aliases

where $$1 would be the project number...
and $$2 the search

but i did not manage to make that one work either
if i type :
c:\_snippets\txt_snippets_projets\someNumber\ +open_snippets -alias -.ini +. keyword
it works...

i tried modifying xml FARR files, unfortunately, if you change those files they are not refreshed until you go inside FARR options 
which means dynamic aliases are not possible for the moment

any idea ?

10 folder limit seems pretty limiting.....Is this a free version limit?

nope this is the limit, there was a paid version before microsoft bought it... (maybe without the limit... i don't know)
i would pay a lot to remove it though...

Looking at the website, it's an online storage thing, ie. your data kept on their servers. It does not appear to sync folder to folder, locally:

-tranglos

it has nothing to do with online storage  (no file is stored on their servers...)
and it DOES sync folder to folder either locally or through the internet 
(it does need the foldershare servers to manage the sync process however)

and please bear with me if it's already been said

by far, the best solution i've seen for folder sync is FolderShare (http://www.foldershare.com)

there are however some problems (which can be deal breakers !)

• 10000 file limit per folder (you can sync up to 10 folder)
  
• sometimes the folder share server does not work, and in that case the sync does not work...

for my backup need i use SyncbackSE (which is very good)

well in any case FolderShare is the best app i know along with autohotkey and FARR
so you may give it a try, if the limitations are ok with you
i use it for collaborative work and it's just such a productivity boost...
i could not live without it
FolderShare is the only app i know that is really unobtrusive and real-time...
from what i recall mirror folder is real-time until the destination is offline... (am i wrong here ?)

I've also tried (but not fully tested) PowerFolder (similar to FolderShare)

Hi,

it would be great if one could specify the result of an alias in a text file :



it would allow people to create dynamic aliases...

practical example :

i have 100 projects...
i have code snippets, urls, texts, ... for all my projects
all those snippets are stored in 100 folders (1 project = 1 folder)

i'd like to use the same alias (an alias to copy the snippets into the clipboard...) for all my projects
since i already have a global project manager (global meaning system-wide)
i'd like to choose the current project then use the alias to paste the snippets BUT only the snippets of that particular project

to do that now i can (each time i change the current project) :
1) change the path of my dosearch command directly in the FARR alias xml file ... (i don't like that)
2) rename the snippet folder of the current project so that it matches the path in the alias... (or copy the snippets in the folder...)
hope you get the idea...

what i'd like to do :
change the content of the text file... much like 1)

benefits :

• it does not interfere with FARR
  
• easier to do

other example :
it's very easy to create an autohotkey script to add a line into a text file
let's say to save urls...
select an url, press the hotkey
then invoke FARR with the appropriate alias, there is your saved url !

Bonus !
there are many uses for this feature, i also suggest that one could specify multiple files in the result list
or even better mix files and actual results...
for example :
Google | http://google.com
file = c:/myfav.txt
Yahoo | http://yahoo.com
file = c:/myfav2.txt
file = c:/otherthings.txt

small bug, let say you have a window called "Desktop"

you type :
tab d
then
e
then
s

everything is ok "Desktop" climbs to the top of the list ...

but now if you type

x (or z or any other "wrong letter")

Desktop still show in the list, but when you press enter, it does not work

now if you delete x then press enter it works again ...

another thing, if you type : tab desxx
Desktop does not show anymore (the bug only appears for the first "wrong" character)

i did however add an "explore here" to any alias result, including agroups(!)

that's a nice feature, but when you have lots of aliases you have to find it through agroups (not quite easy)
then you have to find it a second time within the alias tab... (not easy)

really depends on how many aliases you have... i guess the current solution is fine for most of us...

i was wondering ... maybe this feature could be done as a plugin
a more general plugin helping us editing FARR options ... ?
