You are very correct. it is really illogical that even though FARR is installed you STILL have to use Win+R. The basic idea should be that FARR by default does everything Win+R does and builds over it. Why force someone to use 2 different utilities? Here is a simple list of the things I can't just write in FARR (without extensive aliasing, which is obviously not an option):

• winword
• notepad c:\file.txt
• com/comexp.msc
• odbcad32
• cmd

You can argue that instead of "winword" I could write "word" in FARR in just let it search my Start Menu but for many people it became a common practice to type exactly that. Beside that, "winword" will work on any (windows) computer, FARR or not and it always best to work with the standards.

The author idea are sure to solve some of these issues (if fixed) but more needs to be done. FARR should work just as if is Win+R. I thought to write a plugin like that but it would be a lot better if it was in the core of FARR.

Well, as you know there is such an option (and thus the striking). However, I wish there was a hotkey to access the explorer shell (e.g shift+right click).

Another issue that wasn't mentioned is the search-as-you-type. The problem occurs especially with the Locate32 plugin - FARR sends what you write immediately to all the plugins. While this can be solved on the plugin level, it might be better if FARR didn't "send as you type" but instead give it a few milliseconds for you to finish the search query (or even better, make the delay customizable).

I know you have commented on this one but in case it is forgotten I want to remind again. http://www.webscrape.com/ can open up alot of possibilities with Farr. Maybe this app can use to create results for Farr memo or html view.

WebScape is a nice tool. However, it uses regular expression. A more natural approach for web scraping would be using xml/xpath. Firefox also includes a nice add-in called "XPather" that helps you extract almost any element easily. For example, the title of this topic is:

FARR is kind of an underdog, but hey, we got to the finals . On the windows front there is only Launchy, RocketDock and FARR.
So before anyone gets any kind of negative feeling about vote results, it is rather important to remember how many launchers there are for Windows - FARR is in the in the top 3.

Which brings me to the next subject. Quite a few people voted there already, each using a different variation of the name (FindAndRunRobot, Find&RunRobot, FARR) needless to say it hurts the chances of FARR to appear in the final count (unless an editor of LifeHacker actually goes over the votes manually).

Since Mouser announced he will be coming back to working on FARR core I think it is a good time to talk about the name. It is confusing, long and deserves a change. Something sprakly, googly and web 3.0. Do you agree at all? What does Mouser think?

It is a good idea indeed. Though it means that the "Title" of the application you "FARRTab" to would be the one that FARR would find.

Can't promise I'll do it anytime soon though, so anyone interested is welcome to download the C# SDK that contains the source and add it.

Ok so far I tried Launchy which I liked but inexplicably stopped working.

Haven't had much luck getting FARR to run smoothly and want something simple I don't have to muck about with too much, can anyone recommend another launcher?

Try SlickRun, as far as simple launchers go, it is great. I introduce it to people as a gateway to FARR later on

Since I'm having troubles with two other plugins (Google Dictionary and Google Translate), I wonder if something similar could be the problem.

I doubt it... Google Dictionary and Google Translate don't use the C# sdk.

some kind of way to send the plugin a signal after a short delay of no typing, so that plugins like this could query an online source after a short delay so it wouldnt have to check every character, but could still check "live" without requiring enter to be hit.  what do you think?

I suggest to you to use the Javascript SDK. C# SDK might work but it also recompiles the wrapper when you build your plugin so you must have MFC libraries in your C++ compiler.

It was a bug with FARR EnviormentVariables after all, should be fixed in last version.

Yep. But try make it so it happens in the following flow:
1) User enters quick add
2) You get the created date and an option to approve/delete it
3) Go back to 1

Very neat! Now if it was somehow possible to preview the date before finalizing the event. Quick add sometimes makes those funny mistakes.

Are you guys sure it is connected to any plugin at all? Does this behavior constantly disappear when you disable those plugins?

Inlcuded the current list of issues people are having with C# plugins. Please anyone who still has problems (new ones or the ones listed here) post here and tell which ones so I can assess the seriousness of each issue.

Hmm. I have currently all the .NET plugins installed and I don't experience what you described.
Right now there should be only 1 real issue about C# plugins. I guess I should post about possible errors and solutions on the SDK thread.
