1 Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Current development status on FARR? No stable version released this year on: January 02, 2015, 07:23:46 PM
There will be an update before the end of the year for sure and I welcome any feature requests!!

The end of 2015 is thankfully a few hundred days in the future^^
2  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Mailbird on: December 24, 2014, 10:38:04 AM
It takes merely ages for any feature to implement. They took over a year for an address book and is it capable of syncing (e.g. a carddav server)? Nope. Everything it does is always pretty basic, if you need anything that coexists within a heterogeneous environment (by syncing it's stuff), look elsewhere...
3 Software / Post New Requests Here / Re: Display jumplist live views in a new window on: December 06, 2014, 03:04:25 AM
Thank you, 4wd!

I didn't know that an utility like this already exists. OnTopReplica is absolutely sufficient, I can write a wrapper for this by myself (AutoHotkey).
4 Software / Post New Requests Here / Display jumplist live views in a new window on: December 05, 2014, 11:23:52 AM

Since Win 7 we have jumplists for items on the taskbar. If you hover over one, you see a small live window of what's currently inside the window that belongs to this jumplist. This also works for videos and the speed and quality is rather good. If you have several e.g. videos playing (with the same player in a different instance) hovering over one of these task bar entries will show the live view for _all_ of the them^^

I'm looking for an application that is able to to generate these live views and put them together in a new window (if possible: without scroll bars).

It would be nice if we could arrange the order of it's entries and display them either in a horizontal or vertical way.

Two screenshots:
- One live view for a video player (hovering over it's taskbar entry)
- Arranged vertically

Is anyone able to code this?

5  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: MasterSeeker 1.2 - Incredibly Fast File Search Engine! on: October 21, 2014, 04:24:43 AM

If MasterSeeker is able to find the .xml file in its own directory please do not let it create the %APPDATA%\DxCK folder.
I've seen quite a few apps that still "mess" with %APPDATA% | %LOCALAPPDATA% even if they claimed to be portable (and ofc with their config files in the correct place).

Apart from that there are no avoidable traces that MasterSeeker leaves behind  Thmbsup

One thing I'm missing badly (or I'm to blind to find it):
The possibility to exclude specific drives / partitions from indexing

E.g. I don't need my system drive to be indexed (in 99 of 100 cases) because all my data is on a different drive
6  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: MasterSeeker 1.2 - Incredibly Fast File Search Engine! on: October 17, 2014, 08:27:30 AM
It doesn't work with ntfs partitions that are mounted in an empty folder (so called: volume mount points)...

Apart from that, is a fully portable version planned (at least one, that can store it's .xml config file in the same dir as the exe instead of %APPDATA%\DxCK\MasterSeeker?

Currently in open beta, you can get an invite by visiting
and entering your e-mail address.

Atm it's Mac only, Linux & Windows will follow.

It looks quite similar to Sublime Text and has already a large range of supporting plugins.
The core is closed source atm. Although it's not obfuscated Wink

The repository for plugins:

Multiple cursors are already supported and an experimental vim plugin is available.

Screenshots are available on the website and most of the plugins in the repository have one / several as well...

A video that shows some of it's features:

Does a german translation already exist?
12  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Re: Transfer data from Win7 to a new installation? on: January 03, 2014, 08:53:16 AM
Source systems are either x86 / x64. About 7 to 3. Modified the original posting. The 10 replacement systems have 7 Pro x86 installed and because they only have 3GB Ram each there is absolutely no reason to change that.
13  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Transfer data from Win7 to a new installation? on: January 03, 2014, 08:22:00 AM

is there any recommendable software around that scans a computer for any kind of media = image | music | documents (.ppt, doc(x), etc.) | anything else that counts as some kind of user documents and transfer all this data (retaining the old folder structures) to a user selectable destination point (a local folder on a partition would be enough)?

Source systems are: Windows 7 Professional, x86 / x64 | german / english
Destination (always): Windows 7 Professional, x86 german

I have to transfer the data for 10 Notebooks so I don't want to go through all folders manually.

Sure, everyone would say: Use Windows-Easy-Transfer...
Apart from the fact that it doesn't restore from x64 to x86 directly (which ofc I could circumvent) it failed miserably when I tested it...
628 MB of data (only for one user account), transferred the destination file to a virtual machine and after running through the wizard
it tells me the easytransfer-file is empty... lol, it isn't...

So I'm looking for an alternative...

One thing that is a must have: After scanning a PC it must be possible to go over the selected directories / files to make manual
corrections (e.g.: check / uncheck a folder that I don't want to be transferred).

Any recommendations (please, only stuff that you tried yourself and that works as advertized)?
14  Other Software / Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: New program: FileSearchy Beta - Quick file search utility (freeware) on: November 28, 2013, 06:50:25 AM
Not bad Cashper!

Looks nice, finding files is really instant.
I would install it on 10 notebooks but there are only limited user accounts available.
So the only way atm is to create a task that runs with highest privileges but I do not
want it to popup automatically so could you please add an option to just display it's
tray icon instead of the full gui?

15  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Looking for a launcher on: June 07, 2013, 05:06:03 AM
I will be adding indexing option to FARR.

This would be a tremendous step forward to "the perfect" launcher.

Hope to see it soon smiley
16 Software / Finished Programs / Re: DONE: KeyMOUSE (Control your mouse with keyboard keys) on: January 16, 2013, 11:45:58 PM
Do you accept any feature whishes?

3 things would be nice, imho:
- An additional movement method: By <x> pixel (either Speed or Pixel can be active)
- I would be great if your software could be used to move / resize windows by using
an editable modifier key and the cursor keys (with Pixel option). It isn't possible while
holding "L" because it will repeat the left mouse clicking
- A portable version (even .net applications can safe their config to the current app dir / a user specific dir instead of something like "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\MoveYourCursor\Key_Mouse_Donation_Coder._Url_<many chars>\<version>\")
17  Main Area and Open Discussion / General Software Discussion / Ram Disks with Dynamic Memory Management? on: December 30, 2012, 06:05:31 PM

is anyone aware of Ram Disks that support  Dynamic Memory Management, apart from Primo Ramdisk?

DMM = The Ram Disk releases any memory that isn't in use anymore (because files were deleted inside the Ram Disk).

Your Ram Disk is set to 8GB
It is currently empty
Now you copy a 4GB file to it, it occupies 4GB of Ram afterwards.
You delete the file and a few seconds later it's back to (nearly) 0.

Primo is rather expensive (I'd like to use a Ram Disk on Windows Server 2012, if possible)...

I set ahk hotkey Control Click to send the foreground key combination and Shift Click to send the background key combination if chrome is the active window.

Like to share your ahk script, MilesAhead?

It would be nice if it would allow to specify the drive which should be searched.
20 Software / Find And Run Robot / Re: Latest FARR Release v2.107.04 beta - Sep 23, 2012 on: September 24, 2012, 11:51:45 AM
Until now I didn't find any issues with the latest (.04) version.

Response time is much! better when FARR is not on the exclusion list of MSE but still a little bit unpredictable. In most cases it only needs half a second (although it's never instant) to display it's results but sometimes (about 1/5 of all searches) up to about 4 seconds. Apart from that, a great step forward.
21 Software / Find And Run Robot / FARR slow searching/pauses - tips on: September 20, 2012, 07:26:20 AM
Hi mouser,

Redownloaded again, now I have the "Speed up display..." option smiley

I've thought about if there are any major differences between those 3 machines and the most important one is:
The main doesn't use any virus scanner, the other two have Microsoft Security Essentials installed...

So after adding the FARR executable to the process exclusion list... FARR's search results are instant now,
regardless if I change any settings from one of your screenshots Wink

This should have come to my mind earlier, sorry mouser!

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

22 Software / Find And Run Robot / FARR slow searching/pauses - tips on: September 20, 2012, 05:51:43 AM
1. It's fast when I run the same search a second time
2. I don't have this setting ;(

I'm running v2.107.01
and an image of the display options setting screen is attached.

23 Software / Find And Run Robot / FARR slow searching/pauses - tips on: September 20, 2012, 05:31:24 AM
Hi mouser,

I use FARR to scan only three directories:
1.) C:\TBOS\%COMPUTERNAME% (search depth = 1 | file extension = exe)
2.) D:\Tools\.Shortcuts (search depth = 0 | file extension = lnk)
3.) D:\Users\%USERNAME%\Tools\.Shortcuts (search depth = 0 | file extension = lnk)

The first one contains one subfolder with two subfolders underneath which have 2 .exe files.
2. and 3. contain only .lnk files which point to .exe files that are placed in a parent folder structure like

Overall there are about 160 .lnk files.

On my system (Win 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 German | Samsung 830 SSD) everything is fine, search results in FARR appear instantly.

I have two other systems with the same operating system and the same ssd (but slower prozessors and less ram) which
behave absolutely different.

Search results need up to 10 seconds before they appear (and FARR is not responding when you click e.g. on the title bar in that time) but the status lines always says that the number of results was returned in 0 (instead of the real amount) of seconds.

These machines use exactly the same FARR setup (like my main machine) and the number of .lnk files are much less (about 40).

I think it must be some problem of icon caching that makes FARR so slow but none of the 3 machines uses a tweak or special (registry) setting that influences the Windows icon cache... Deleting the icon cache and rebuilding it by opening these folders with windows explorer doesn't help and I've changed all settings inside FARR (Incremental search on each keypress, Delay search start based on..., Resolve shortcuts when searching..., Resolve shortcuts when adding..., etc.) that could be related but the problem persists.

Any hints on how to find out what hampers FARR's performance so much on the two other machines?

25  Main Area and Open Discussion / Living Room / Re: Lost my father on: June 06, 2012, 02:55:49 PM
My condolences, too.

I've lost my older brother 12 years and my father 11 years ago (and I was 26 at that time) and even I don't know what to say to somebody
to support him in his grief. It's a german saying "Die Zeit heilt alle Wunden" (time heals all wounds) but unfortunately this is completely untrue ;(

When time goes by it's only getting a tiny bit better.

I wish you all the best.
