nickodemos, thanks for that link to My Episodes.  Looks like a good resource and I'll check it out further.

dallas7, thanks for the expanded review of Futon Critic.  It's the site I'm using now, having added all my shows.  I take a screenshot of the month, eg December, then edit out the shows as I watch them.  I also check daily for changes to the calendar for that day.  Works quite well so far.

And Jody, here's hoping for epCheck's revival.  :)

Jody, that's great to hear.

So, maybe, instead of post-Thanksgiving-dinner tv football, it will be post-Thanksgiving-dinner epCheck fixin'?

:)

dallas7, that's a great post.  Thanks for checking out those alternatives, and I will look into them myself.

One possibility that I'm using right now is "thefutoncritic" website.  Like other sites, you can personalize things, in their case creating an account called "MyFuton".  Then you add your shows and they'll show up on a daily or monthly list when you click on a day on the "SELECT A DATE" calendar.

Your list of shows, called "SHOWATCH" has info like 'date, start/end', 'network, 'time slot', and 'status'.  You can also click on an individual show and go to its page to see all of its episodes, past and future, with repeats marked.

What I've been doing is taking a screen capture of the monthly list, then checking the current day from the calendar in case a network has made a last-minute change.  I don't print the page, but you could and then mark it up the way you want.

I prefer a list-view rather than a calendar-view (like epCheck's Monthly tab) because I'm following so many shows (eg, 10 shows just on Sundays).  In my situation, a calendar would be very large and a printout would be paper-and-ink intensive.  :)

SkyHighatrist, I couldn't have said it better myself.  I'm extremely grateful for all of Jody's work on epCheck.  It has been invaluable to my television viewing but we can't expect him to fix what TVDB has broken.  :)

Jody & zzynx: I think this time I'm referencing an actual problem with the API, not the website v3.

:)

For the last couple of days I've not been able to refresh a series' data - in fact doing so erases all the existing data.  Additionally, trying a search for a new series returns nothing.

Now I see that TVDB is having lots of similar complaints, so it's definitely their problem and not epCheck's but I just wanted to mention it:

zzynx, just checked and I do have build 166.  :)

And Jody, I am really happy that all I had was a temporary glitch, and that epCheck is working fine for all 3 of us.  Not sure what I'd do without it!

Thanks for the clarification on the version numbers, zzynx.  And I'm really glad to hear that epCheck is still working for you.

With that in mind, just now, I refreshed all the data, twice (first time saw no change), and now all the show dates etc are back.

In the past, I've had a show or a couple of shows have their data disappear from the Series list.  The show's title is still there but the episodes, air dates, etc are gone.  I've always just 'Refresh series data' and the info comes back.  This time was very weird - all the data for all the shows was gone, just blank spaces.  And, obviously, all the listings in the Weekly and Monthly tabs were not there.

What a relief!  I can't tell you how much I rely on epCheck to keep track of my big/long list of shows.  :)

Jody, it looks like the 'dreaded day' has finally come to TVDB.  This evening I saw that epCheck was missing some shows' dates so I did a refresh and ALL the data is gone (my Series shows are still listed but no episodes, dates etc).

Checked at TVDB and see that they've gone to "v3" which I assume is their 'upgrade' that breaks epCheck.

Can you verify my conclusion?

Well, then I say to TVDB, 'to hell with progress', stay put.

LOL

Jody, I see that TVDB has a new website 'upgrade', although some commenters in the forum are saying "WTH!"

:)

Noticed it last night when I saw that Modern Family was not in my epCheck listings when it was there earlier.  Checked in Series View and the the episode list for MF was blank, as were 6 other series (I have a whole lot of series).  5 of them did show their episodes with a 'Refresh series data' but two shows were still empty.

This morning things seems to be ok with TVDB which is a huge relief since I rely on epCheck so heavily.

Just thought I'd draw that to your attention, if you weren't already aware.

Tomos, I recently had a similar (if not the same) problem with 'runaway' cpu usage slowing my system down considerably.

This page let me find the offending svchost.exe and it was indeed Windows Update.  I've had the autoupdates turned off for a long time, asking for notice of their availability, but WU still must have been running wild.

http://www.hanselman...ToolsInWindows7.aspx

Using that showed the offender within the specific svchost instance was "wuauserv". Turned it off and the system was immediately back to normal and has remained that way.  It does mean Updates are off but I suppose one could turn wuauserv on occasionally, as mentioned, to get the latest updates then turn it back off.

This page also addresses the issue and mentions a couple of "KB" fixes but I haven't looked into that.

http://superuser.com...emory-usage-wuauserv

Also a google of "wuauserv" shows a lot of apparently pertinent info, although I also haven't checked those.

Shades, thanks for those, especially techrepublic and raymondcc.

The two I mentioned - ghacks and Rick's - are literally the only quality blogs I've known about and Rick's only for the last couple of weeks.  I've read Ghacks for a long, long time.

So you and MilesAhead have added to my bookmarks significantly.

 :)

Apparently I don't have enough to read now, so I'm looking for suggestions for more.   :)

What I'm really looking for are blogs such as ghacks and Rick's Daily Tips that are aimed at ordinary computer users.

Any suggestions?

Jody, you're right about using Series view to check on the dates of a given show.  It is somewhat slower than seeing all that day's shows in one place.  For example, I have 8 shows on Sundays and it would be nice to see them all in one place, but it's certainly not that important.  :)

Jody, I've had no issues at all with 1.1.5.163.

In looking at the new Monthly view, I wonder if a option could be added.  Right now, my Monthly view shows the daily programming for 5 weeks.  This is of limited use to me because a maximum of only 3 episodes of each day's programming is in view without scrolling and I have four days each week when I have 5 or more shows on those particular days.  IOW, a lot of scrolling is necessary if, for example, I wanted to verify that episodes of 'Revenge' are scheduled for the next few weeks.

What if the space in the Monthly view could be toggled to show a single day's schedule for the next few weeks?  All the space would be available for viewing Sunday's shows for the entire month.  Then I could see at a glance if 'Revenge' was going to skip a Sunday.

Of course, this can already be done in the Weekly view but one has to scroll down through all the days of the week to get to the desired next Sunday, etc.

Anyway, just a thought.

Mike

Hold on...

If I have the beta open to the Weekly view and I check off an episode(s) and then hit 'Refresh view' (bottom right corner) the check(s) I just made are erased.

But, if I make the checks and then close epCheck and re-open, the checks are there.

Ok, more to consider: if I check an episode and then go to the Series view and then immediately come back to the Weekly view and hit 'Refresh view' the check holds.  I don't have to go to the specific show in the Series list for the check to hold, I only have to click on the Series tab.

I assume a 'save' is not being made unless I leave the Weekly view, either by closing epCheck or by going to the Series tab.  Going from the Weekly view to another tab - Monthly, Search, or Options - seems to sometimes save the check and sometimes not.

Hmmm....
