So there will be an upgraded MP3 Collector but also a new Music Collector v9 with integrated MP3 Collector?
We're still toying with a couple of ideas. We could do MP3 Collector 3 or integrate MP3 with Music Collector and call it version 9. Or do both and create the ultimate audio and digital music tool version 1. Then you, The Customer, can decide which product is the best solution for your music collection.
We seriously don't know yet, we're still in the process of throwing thoughts and suggestions at each other, based on input we receive from existing MP3 Collector users and our own experience. Will keep you posted on progress if I have something new to report.

Can you confirm/deny what was hinted at earlier in the thread that Music and MP3 Collectorz are going to be combined? If so what will the upgrade policy be for lifetime upgrade users of Music collectorz only?
Since we're still working on the project plan/upgrade of MP3 Collector to version 3.0 I can't say anything about it, sorry. The upgrade policy for MP3 Collector will be the same as for our other programs.

Quote: In MP3 Collector's case, it's still around, but hasn't really been updated in ages (besides very minor things) and, at least to me, it seems to be on its way out also.  As it stands, I think it is by far the least popular of the Collectorz.com suite anyway, which doesn't help motivate the authors to work on it vs their other programs. End Quote.

Hi all, Sytske here from Collectorz.com. I admit that MP3 Collector hasn't been updated in ages but it's absolutely not on its way out as suggested in this topic. On the contrary: we are planning a huge update for MP3 Collector this fall. We're now working on updates for Comic Collector, then Book Collector and next is MP3 Collector. Big plans for it which will make it an awesome app once again.

Thanks for your explanations.
I understand what you are saying and I agree that testimonials are useless if there is a suspicion that they have been edited or even fabricated. Will keep that in mind if a similar situation will occur in the future.

Thanks for your concern and suggestions, but I fail to see why editing the review is "highly suspect".

The reason I said it is highly suspect is because it opens you up to questions about how often, if at all, do you edit other reviews and testimonials on your site to portray your products as you see fit.  How can your customers trust the remainder of the reviews on your website if you have a history of rewriting them when a feature or policy is changed?

Carl

Ah ok. I am sorry I missed that. Thanks for explaining.

We always post reviews and testimonials "as is", including typos and all, no edits are done whatsoever.
For reviews this can be easily verified by following the "link" at the bottom of each entry, which will take you to the original review on its home site.
For testimonials you are welcome to email the users for verification (most testimonials have an email link, except in cases where the user specifically asked us not to list his email address on site).

Finally, the fact that he edited a testimonial to remove information about lifetime upgrades rather than removing it all together seems highly suspect.

Yes, this is unfortunate. Perhaps a simpler solution, and one that doesn't expose collectorz.com to criticsm, would be to mark the relevant bit of the testimonial relating to lifetime licences*

*and note that lifetime licences are no longer available, as of November 14, 2006...

Darwin, cthorpe,

Thanks for your concern and suggestions, but I fail to see why editing the review is "highly suspect".

We agree that is confusing to have testimonials and reviews on our site that still refer to lifetime free upgrades and we are thankful that you guys pointed them all out to us. We removed all references immediately, some by just removing the entire testimonial, some by removing just the part that mentioned free upgrades.

In case of this review we felt that the rest of the review was still valid, the reviewer only mentioned the free upgrades as a "by the way". So for this one we decided to just edit out that part and leave the rest of the review on site. We had no malicious intent in doing so and honestly don't see how this action could be interpreted in that way.

Darwin, thanks for your suggestion. We considered adding a footnote to the review as you suggest, but we decided against it because it would probably be confusing. It's easy to miss a footnote like that and thus, incorrectly, conclude we still offer free upgrades.

As the CEO of Collectorz.com, allow me to clarify the statements made above, and our company policy.

* Before November 2006, customers were entitled to lifetime free upgrades. Installing new versions with a different EULA does not change this. Lifetime free upgrades means just that. When these customers request a free upgrade, they receive it as fast as possible. People who purchase an upgrade and then requested a free key, are refunded their upgrade purchase.

* After November 2006, customers are entitled to free minor upgrades - but not major upgrades. We introduced this new policy to enable us to add features that are relevant to our existing customer base, as opposed to being focused on new users only. These customers can purchase a paid upgrade at a 50% discount.

* A few people have pointed out to us that our website contained some references to free lifetime upgrades, even after we changed the policy. That was an honest mistake on our part, which we promptly corrected. We overlooked one reference (pointed out by cthorpe), and we also removed that last reference immediately after learning about it.
We have offered a free upgrade to the people who were 'misled' by this. This offer has no 'silence' clause of any kind attached to it, nor have we ever implied as much to anyone. It's just a gesture to compensate for a simple oversight.

* Requesting a free license or a refund under the old policy is the responsibility of the customer. We do not regard it as our duty to actively prevent our customers from purchasing an upgrade. Again: we will honor the old policy at the customer's request.

* Finally, we've received quite a lot of great feedback from people who paid for the upgrade, knowing they were eligible for a free upgrade. They felt that all the hard work and important new features since their purchase were worth the upgrade fee. This really motivates us to make sure all our customers continue to feel that way in future.

This posting merely states our company policy; readers can post on the Collectorz.com forum or email us via the Contact Form there if they wish to discuss further with us.

Best regards,

Mark-Jan Harte | CEO, Collectorz.com

Congrats to the winners, especially the Collectorz.com winners. You guys/girls reacted really happy when I emailed you with the news. So far you choose Book Collector (3), MP3 Collector (1), Photo Collector (1) and Music Collector (1). I'm still waiting for lucky number 7 :-)

@brotherS: you get free updates for life, no extra charges there.
For your home videos I don't get the meaning: do you mean home made videos you want to catalogue or the 'real' movies, burned on a DVD? If you refer to the first one, you might want to take a look at Photo Collector. One of the features on our to do list is to integrate videos into it, since most digital cameras are also used as video cameras. And then it would be nice to have your pictures and the moving ones in one place.
Yes, we do like customer feedback, use the appropriete email addresses for your comments. Looking forward to it :-)
We work with beta versions (for example we're now working on Book Collector on the Mac) and are still working on new features/bug fixes and what not on all our software. We are vivid collectors ourselves, so all wishes we have tend to get in the software.
