General Software Discussion / Word Processor OS
« on: January 09, 2011, 11:21 PM »
Does anyone know of something pre existing, or would it be possible to create a simple operating system that can be booted from the BIOS, and that simply launches a fullscreen notepad that can save files to the root harddrive? It's pretty key that it offer nothing more; any distraction would ruin it. If the user wants to load a browser to check a definition, then facebook, then play a quick flash game, etc., onward to procrastinationland, then they would first have to shutdown and boot back into the main OS.

This is a dream of mine: to push my computer to do only what I need to do, despite what I might want to do, or just decide to do, etc. Typewriter soundsets, like in WriteMonkey, would be an added bonus ;)

Any thoughts on feasibility, or similar concepts in the wild?

so I use a program called "Nobar" to hide my windows taskbar.  I also use a program launcher to launch my programs, but when I launch ScreenshotCaptor, the main window does not appear.  I first have to show my taskbar by running Nobar, then I see an indented/shaded icon that says screenshotcaptor, and I have to click on this shaded button to bring up the window.  Why is this?  I went through the general preferences, but all I could find was a set of three options to tick, none of which seemed to directly apply--though they might(?).

any help would be nice and greasy :)

hello
I'm looking for a small program that would allow me to set certain programs, or a program and a window, or certain windows to open and close in unison
my example for a service like this would be to open my music player, which is set to open Last.fm simultaneously, then to close BOTH when I close one

as things are, I don't need Last.fm to be running unless I am scrobbling my listened to tracks to my profile, which I am only doing when I am running my music player.  I'd like to be able to kill both programs when I close my music player.

Likewise, I'd love to kill Live Messenger when I click to close it.
sigh, it is beyond me

thanks, Tristan
