i dont want to make a user-selectable theme - it's too much trouble to maintain different themes.

but i am willing to customize the style sheet colors to match the banner if needed.

as for rotating.. i'm not opposed to it, and there is some fun in it... but there is also value in having a single recognizable memorable logo.

i'm wondering does the 'heart' symbol make things look like a online dating agency?

perhaps a bit...

i'll try putting a hairline border around the entire banner and let's see then how that affects the need for black shadow on bottom and left.

would it be wrong to use the non-globe flat earth banner for the forum along with the globe one for the website?

sounds like a good idea

jgpaiva, i put the shadow on the left edge because i thought that's what you and Carol were recommending to do.

the shadow on the border is something that i'm now thinking ought to be removed altogether ???????????????????????

I must have not explained myself correctly. What i meant was about the 3d effect of the shadow. Right now, on the lower part, it makes sense, because it goes all around the blue object, from left to right, as you raised the lower edge of it.

~~But the little vertical shadow on the left doesn't make much sense, since there's no object to create any shadow there.~~

Ok.. I just got to the point. Now i understand why that shadow is there. It's not the blue part that is elevated, but the beije part that is in a hole.
I really would like to see this banner in a webpage... mouser?

nudone · « **Reply #181 on:** May 28, 2006, 06:20 PM »

ah, yes i see what you meant jgpaiva. the yellow area is indeed meant to be sunken.

anyway, here's a non shadow version with a bit of a gradient instead. and the non world forum with a few adjustments.

How about changing the heart bubble to a chat bubble?

Personally I am not sure about the clipping on the forum banner - is there anyway round that?

nudone · « **Reply #183 on:** May 28, 2006, 06:46 PM »

a few more changes then...

mouser · « **Reply #184 on:** May 28, 2006, 07:15 PM »

its fun seeing cody in the balloons but since he will be on the right hand side of every banner it might be overkill.

mouser · « **Reply #185 on:** May 28, 2006, 07:31 PM »

i put a thin grey border around it on latest demo:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Contests/banner/nudone7/index.html

i cannot seem to get the sliver to work right - not sure why.. color depth?

nudone · « **Reply #186 on:** May 28, 2006, 07:42 PM »

i'll see if it's something i've done...

mouser · « **Reply #187 on:** May 28, 2006, 07:49 PM »

the ($) does decrease the standout of the $ especially if he is not set aside, so maybe we should go back to 4 bubble people all equally spaced if the heart doesn't work? 4 peeps is easier on the eyes then 5.

what about:
? BINARY ! BINARY

without dollarsign?
are we being insanely picky? i can't tell yet.

i do like it with the thin grey border i know that much.

nudone · « **Reply #188 on:** May 28, 2006, 08:04 PM »

i'll do the four people no dollar binary repeat edit tomorrow.

any more suggestions, post them now and i'll read them in the morning before i start changing things.

i've made this new 'sliver'. everything looks okay in photoshop when i join the sliver to the main website image but are you converting these to .gif, mouser? that's the only thing i can see that might be changing the colour depth other than me uploading something that didn't match in the first place - which is quite likely.

mouser · « **Reply #189 on:** May 28, 2006, 08:10 PM »

not converting them to gif but i must be doing something wrong - your version looks fine.

mouser · « **Reply #190 on:** May 28, 2006, 08:24 PM »

let me just throw out the idea of reducing to 3 people on the globe and then cody as the last creature.
and then removing him from far right. just an idea.

one other advantage of nudone's balloon speaking logo banner is that we can pop in new symbols in the balloons on special occasions.

cody looks a bit small if inside the banner...

mouser · « **Reply #193 on:** May 28, 2006, 09:12 PM »

hehehe looks like he is feeding the people who are his little children

hahaah come on it's so damn crazy you have to love it

might be nice to see a version of topbanner_website_world_09.png with a smaller cody at the far right, as if he was a pet instead of the overlord.. if it's not too much trouble.

I think this has reached an important point.
Wouldn't it be possible to have the globe with cody on the right, the sliver in the middle, and the rest of the banner on the left?
I think that would be just perfect.
