i like the clouds and the sunny coloured letters theme.

I like ToxMox' latest version best, also slave138' idea of putting some emphasis to "DC" (marking the D and the C)!

nudone · « **Reply #54 on:** April 06, 2006, 07:39 AM »

well, i still like the clouds and the sunny letters theme. it's the most positive banner we've had so far - maybe it doesn't match perfectly with the rest of the forum colour scheme but maybe it doesn't have to.

the majority of the other banners have seemed rather cold and uninviting so far - am i reading too much into all of this?

Hirudin · « **Reply #55 on:** April 06, 2006, 08:29 AM »

I personally like the 101$0010$11010$10$110. I see the 'binary' pattern so many different places I tune it out. The dollar signs aren't immediately aparrent to me.

To me, a good logo can't have a standard font in it. The letters have to look more like they were sculpted than made with cookie cutters.
...
I guess the only letters that actually repeat are "o" and "n," so it probably wouldn't be too hard to 'tweek' those letters for the final version.

Just my two cents...

Here is a sunny version for Nudone

mouser · « **Reply #57 on:** April 06, 2006, 11:56 AM »

nice!

i should point out, as i've done on a separate thread, that the banner you see now on the pages is not the final banner chosen as our new banner - we are just testing out different banners and no final decision has been made.

we're going to be trying out some of toxmox's soon too

nudone · « **Reply #58 on:** April 06, 2006, 01:13 PM »

those are certainly more my colours, ToxMox.

momonan · « **Reply #59 on:** April 06, 2006, 01:49 PM »

I really love the rounded, 3-D effect of ToxMox's font for DonationCoder, but am not sure the font in "for software connoisseurs" is a suitable companion. The font used by hamradio for those words is no better because it is hard to read. Can you try out others?

The clouds used by ToxMox seem a bit stormy to me, even in the lighter version. I prefer the ones in hamradio's example; it feels like they are much higher in the sky, more "atmospheric." Also, they really work out nicely in the forum banner.

So...would love to see ToxMox's DonationCoder on hamradio's clouds -- and to see other examples of "for software connoisseurs."

i agree about the stormy clouds, etc.

I'm digging the slave138b forum bar, but not so much the quadrilateral's (no offense).

On another note, whichever banner is chosen, I think that at least the text part should be hot-linked to the main page (a la Slashdot). It's a nice big target and I find myself constantly clicking it.

Additionally, perhaps the Forum banner could link to main forum page--might make navigating easier. $:-\$

nudone · « **Reply #62 on:** April 08, 2006, 05:13 PM »

how about we have a cycle of banners anyway. or are we looking for a permanent identity?

No offense taken. I was mostly just toying around with a program I had just installed (Inkscape). I'm working on another right now because I just don't like all the clouds. They come off a little too 'foofy' for my tastes (no offense to anyone else).

mouser · « **Reply #64 on:** April 08, 2006, 05:27 PM »

yeah we could just cycle each month...

Here's a lighter variation of my banner with a more script-like font.

Main Banner:

Main Sliver:

Forum Banner:

Forum Banner w/o Coin:

Forum Sliver (works with both versions):

Oops... Here's a corrected version of the Main Banner to get rid of the annoying line on the left side:

I know it's a bit late, but... "connoisseurs" is a bad word. It's pretty hard to spell

, and I bet people who are less fluent in English (and french) will have trouble understanding it...

mouser · « **Reply #68 on:** April 10, 2006, 05:04 AM »

it's a bit of a chance using "connoisseurs", but it's a very neat word and given its roots i wonder if it isnt more understood than one might think.

as for spelling, i can't disagree with you there - its impossible to spell. but then who has to spell it?

Carol Haynes · « **Reply #69 on:** April 10, 2006, 08:41 AM »

LOL - no one has to spell it but maybe DC could do it's bit to educate the world by having a range of banners with hard words in various languages ... any suggestions

mouser · « **Reply #70 on:** April 10, 2006, 08:42 AM »

slave - i think your latest, while beautiful, puts a bit too much emphasis on the mighty dollar sign for my comfort.
it's a bit like using the catchphrase "It's all about the money"

Yes, agreed, i also had the same impression

Carol Haynes · « **Reply #72 on:** April 10, 2006, 09:48 AM »

Yes I agree too - plus the coins are much more prominant than the name of the website which is rather in the background.

ToxMox · « **Reply #73 on:** April 10, 2006, 12:01 PM »

Here is a fluffier less stormy version. And once a slogan is finalized I'll put that in.

nudone · « **Reply #74 on:** April 10, 2006, 12:02 PM »

i agree too. less coin more positive imagery please.
