Shortcut Creator

[Contro]

Shortcut creator.

I would like to select with a click a folder, file, program ; and applying a key combination over that selection automatically create a shortkey (direct access to that folder, file, program)  in another folder or place. Usually in the windows desktop.

Better is the key combination invokes a selection table with my shortcuts definible favorite folders.

I am trying to go faster that the usual way :

over the file , click right button - send to - windows desktop (shortcut)

This is not precisely what you asked for, but it is really good, and it is there:

CreateShortcutThere v1.0

Rightclick a file and select the contextmenu CreateShortcutThere... to choose where to place the shortcut

[attachimg=#]

The idea: http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=16484.0

the file: http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/CreateShortcutThere/CreateShortcutThere.exe !

Also, not quite what was requested, but FWIW, here's what I have locally:

1. Select something in Windows Explorer

2. Bring up tool via a hotkey, choose relevant menu item, and destination

[Shades]

Maybe the tool LinkChanger could be useful as well (if it is still available that is).

Look for FWIW ?

"FWIW" is short for "For What It's Worth"
"FWIW" is Internet slang, meaning "for whatever help it may provide" or "for whatever its value may be"

I get here

Can I have this utility ?

I was going to say 'sure', except I seem to be having trouble uploading via FTP, atm.

[jdd]

Contro, I had a similar request, for exactly the same purpose you described - to avoid right click, send to, desktop shortcut.  Skwire created an AutoHotkey script that I run in FARR when I want to create a desktop shortcut to avoid right click.  The zip file called 'DesktopShortcutter.zip' is described in the following thread:

I'll take a good look. What's the meaning of FARR ?

ewemoa , what the meaning of atm. ?

Sorry, it is short for "at the moment".

and..."FARR" == "Find And Run Robot"

Doh, I forgot I wrote that.   Apologies for not mentioning it sooner.

I use Launchy. I suppose FARR is for similar purpose.

Also, not quite what was requested, but FWIW, here's what I have locally:

What shell extension is that providing all those neatly categorized context menu items?

It's not a shell extension   It's a little utility in AHK_L for consolidating certain types of AHK_L functionality into one place.

I added some bits to skwire's code:

 CreateShortcutsIn.zip

SHA1: ba06fbfa0cb8a789dafbbda8e57889639738cd67

The zip file should contain an executable and a sample ini file (which should get copied by invoking the executable if there isn't already an ini file with the name "CreateShortcutsIn.ini" in the same directory as the executable).

Code

[Settings]
Hotkey=^+c
1=C:\
2=C:\WINDOWS
3=C:\Documents and Settings
Total=3

The Hotkey setting should be something that the AHK Hotkey command can understand.  In the example here, it is set to "Ctrl Shift C".

The numbered entries indicate possible destinations to copy to.

The Total setting is the total number of numbered entries.  It is set to 3 here, but if one were to set it to 2, then it should ignore any numbered entries with numbers larger than 2.  Please make entries counting from (and including) 1 in increments of +1.  It is unlikely the code will behave otherwise.

Note: If I understand correctly, any existing shortcuts will be overwritten.

I failed to include credits in the zip file (perhaps for a future version?).  Here is the draft of the CREDITS.txt file -- comments welcome:

Wonderful.
In my case I adapted the ini file for my peculiar locations. My main system is on M:
I used environmental variables

c:  ---- %SYSTEMDRIVE%
C:\WINDOWS ---- %WINDIR%
%USERPROFILE%
