General brainstorming for Note-taking software - Longest running thread on our forum

blog clipart
Back in February 2006, SuperboyAC started a thread with this post:

I don't know if this is a good idea, but I wanted to start a thread where we can all just brainstorm about note-taking software.  Anything you want to say, wishlist of features, what you like about existing programs, what you'd like the ideal program to do.  I know a lot of us would like to see a good review of this genre done here at DC, and we all know how hard that would be to accomplish, so maybe this thread could be a place where ideas can be collected....

This thread turned out to be the longest active thread on our forum, and is still going strong after over 380 replies and over 31000 reads.

And make sure you don't miss SuperBoyAC's Notetaking Software Roundup #1 (of several planned):  https://www.donation.../Archive/NoteTakers1

Read what note-taking software people are using and tell us what you use...

Tray Management Utilities Mini-Review

blog clipart
This mini-review will cover two of the better tray management utilities available for the microsoft windows platform. The two reviewed are XDesk's SysTrayX and PS Soft Lab's PS Tray Factory.

What is a tray management utility?

These program's are designed to alleviate some space in your system tray by replacing many of your less commonly used or accessed icons with a single icon (or none at all). They give your more real estate in your taskbar and can add another very useful function that allows you to minimize any running app to the system tray.

Addressbook Software Mini-Shootout

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time, and so here it is.  Ever since about 2000, I've been on a constant hunt for the perfect addressbook software, and while some come pretty close, none of them come SATISFACTORILY close (personally speaking that is).  I have a fairly strict set criteria for what I am talking about, and here they are..

Anyone know of some good voice mail software?

blog clipart
I am tired of standard answering machines and their ridiculous little button interfaces.  I want some software running on my computer to handle this with a modern interface that makes dealing with my messages much easier.

Ideally, it would be network aware where I can run it on my machine and have a client version on my wifes computer so she can check messages from her PC.  Should be caller id aware, but then that is a given now.

Internet accessible would be a big plus so you can easily check messages from a remote location.  Another great feature would be the ability to send emails on incoming calls from all callers or just specific callers (caller id of course).

Oh, and a huge plus would be the ability for it to display caller id info on the screen when a call comes in, and to do this in a non-intrusive manner.

So, anyone know any good voice mail software? :)

What's the Best Virtual Desktop Software?

blog clipart
Zaine wonders what people recommend for Virtual Desktop software:

Wondering what you'd recommend. Here's the three I've been using:
      — Virtual Dimension (Open Source)
      — VirtuaWin (Open Source)
      — Dexpot (Personal Freeware/Business shareware)
I'm too the point where I need this software! Once you start using it, you can't live without it.
