Answer in another area?

[rjbull]

Mouser,

Is it possible with this software to quote/answer a posting in another area?

e.g., knowing that Stefan uses both cron and Stickies, I wondered how the two fit together, when he would use one rather than the other.  That's a new topic that doesn't fit in the "Donation value to developers" thread, which is where the Stickies message is.

[mouser]

well you can just copy and paste, or i could move his post here, but i think he'll see it here and answer, so i dont think you need to do anything more.

would be nice to hear what everyone uses for alarms and cron stuff.

What do you mean, rjbull ?
I playing around always and test several tools all the way.
If i had to do a work and must start an tool or batch i like to use cron.
If i want to be remember on an given time or in several minutes (or store an notice) i use stickies. (or ATNotes, or UK's Kalender or EPIM)

That's exactly how I use them    Just interested to see if there were any tricks I'd missed!  Except, I'm currently using Magic Notes, which is shareware, mostly because I got a cheap deal.  Not sure if I'll "stick" with it indefinitely.

Check out Note-It . I am always taking suggestions for improvements.  Has some features not found in any other post-it like application..

[AbteriX]

Yes i checked out the side of Note-It.

But Note-It have no timer/alarm, isn't it.

Would you explain more about Note-It please ?

- why it this a dl of 2,5Meg ??? (so it has no change to be dl by me, Stickie f.ex. have 600kB)
- does your tool use the registry or store it all setting in an INI in program folder ?
- what is the advantage of your tool over Stickies ? I don't see any reading your feature list:

Code

Features:
Append multiple notes to a single file
All text formating is now saved with the note file
Drag and drop text from most applications
Control the transparency of a note - let notes fade to the background
Store images inside a note - simply paste into the note
Show Special View notes and display information like computer memory, live clipboard viewer, and hard drive space
Minimize option lets you shrink a note to icon size

> live clipboard viewer
does Note-It capture the text from clipboard ?

[Veign]

Note-Its alarms / reminders are located under Special Notes.

Additional Special Notes:
- Clipboard viewer - Actively hooks into the clipboard stream to automatically watch for and display changes to the clipboard
- Clipboard log - Keeps a log of all clipboard activity
- Computer memory - displays and updates the current memory usage by the system
- RSS Feed - grabs and displays an RSS feed's topic list (updates automatically)
- Stock Quotes - displays a stock quote  (updates automatically)
- More being developed.

Additional features:
- Special menus appear if right-clicking on the main note, the caption at the bottom, selected text, and the note's icon
- Double-click the note's icon to place into icon mode to reduce the foot print
- Note docks to the side of the screen
- Control the transparency level of the note (WinXP / Win2K only) - Main Menu -> Options -> Transparency
- Paste as Plain Text lets you copy and paste formatted text as text only with no formatting
- Append notes lets you append several notes into a single Note-It file.  Use the Multi-Note mamanger to control these notes
- Note's bottom caption can be placed into different modes: Word Count, Character Count, Filename, or Time / Date Stamp

Download is 2.5Meg because it has some dependancies. (i.e it uses a safe-subclass component).

Application wide settings (since there is not alot of them) is stored in the registry.  Note specific settings are stored in the Note's file

Help file is something that I need to develop but hard to find time for a freeware application.

Any other questions ask away...

Thanks very much

OK, i try.

Additional Special Notes:

- Clipboard log - Keeps a log of all clipboard activity

Nice, i will try.

2,5 MB is bad  (i collect my tools on CD and/or USB-Stick to carry them with me, so size is a matter{IMHO} )

Application wide settings (since there is not alot of them) is stored in the registry.

On some PCs i don't wanna leave tracks if i start my tools from the USB-Stick, but that's my behaviour
But M$ attempt to create something like the registry was no good thing for end users, i love the UN1X way most.
We could carry all settings with us (special in this USB-Stick time)
and modify this INI even by starting from an  floppy disk (or such) in case of emergency.
(OK OK, with Bart's PE CD this is no matter anyway  )

Note specific settings are stored in the Note's file

Good to hear.

Help file is something that I need to develop but hard to find time for a freeware application.

Yes, i understand you.

Any other questions ask away...

Thank you.
