Welcome to NANY 2021
« on: July 31, 2020, 09:21 AM »
NANY is "New Apps for the New Year" -- an event we run on DonationCoder where we invite coders who hang out on the forum to release a new free program at the start of the new year -- or celebrate the new apps they've written in the last 12 months.

There are no winners or losers, everyone who participates gets a free mug commemorating the event.

You can find previous year's forums here: https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?board=329.0

I'll add one or two tools towards the end of the year again, in addition to the previous ones from 2020.
Don't worry, I don't do this for the mugs.  I'll just participate without a prize.  ;)
I bet when Cheetahs race and one of them cheats, the other one goes "Man, you're such a Cheetah!" and they laugh & eat a zebra or whatever.

If it's software that, in majority, you made, then I'd say yes

I dunno if it even counts as software - it's just javascript/NODE.JS lol

Also, the code couldn't be released (cause It's BAD) and people can only "invite" the bot to their servers (though there would be no real point cause it's DC-specific stuff.

Well, independent of what anyone's opinion is of js code, it's still code, so it should be counted in.

The quality also isn't a measure of qualification ;D, it's about the effort and willingness to participate in NANY 8)

AFAIK it doesn't even have to be code -- I got a nany cup in 2011 for (with others implementing) a website idea (that unfortunately didn't last long - askapic.com).
Although it did get implemented so there was html -- just I didn't actually write any of it. I was the ideas man and the design.

Ah, yes, so being actively involved is the criterion; that does make sense

Congratulations to everyone who participate in NANY 2021

This was a bit of a slow year -- I've been distracted by some other projects and then there was the pandemic situation.. It's a year many of us are glad to see in our rear view mirror!

But congratulations to everyone who stuck with it.

We'll put together a little round up as always, and then get the 2021 mugs in the air.
(Hamradio is going to make another alternate mug design for us I think).

Haha, as if the mugs would actually exist... they stopped being shipped last year!  :P

Thank you for another round of NANY, everyone!

Stopped being shipped?  What is that a reference to?

God only knows.

Shipping for the mugs will be slower than normal, but they have not been stopped.

The vendor increasingly failed to ship the mugs to me (must be a problem with Germany) every year until NANY 2020 when I did not receive any shipment at all.

So, well, as I said: I don’t do it for the mugs. I won’t get any anyway.  ;D

If the mug/vendor isn't working you can also get credit for the amount.  I've done that a few years, as I'm running out space for mugs.

Oh my...

I actually like the mugs, I killed one accidentally. But it’s alright. I would write tools even without anyone taking notice!

That's the purest spirit! 1000% congrats for it!! :) In my view, you can help the world improve/thrive while having a form of abundance coming along with it.

Acting on your passion can be something that supports you!

And I'm not only talking about the idea of money! You can get abundance in the form a trade. a gift. something positive happening in synchronicity thanks to you helping others (that wouldn't have happened otherwise), and expanding your creativity/imagination to make you more productive in other areas of your life.

Super-valuable: Interacting with a new friend or friends who fill(s) your soul is a form abundance to me as well

There are So many forms of blessings!

I love my NANY mugs.  For me, getting that mug is my great aspiration.  It gets me to actually complete a program so others can use it - otherwise, I just use a half-baked program for my own needs.

I only write program when I can't find one that suits my needs that's already made.  But those NANY mugs get me to actually finish the complete project.  Everyone here at our office uses my NANY mugs (I have 5 or 6 of them).  They like the large ones.  I got a small one for one year, but folks go for the larger ones.
