Will upload the full video once I can be bothered transfering it from the other phone.

Before it was cool

Adam Kokesh's take on it.

[KynloStephen66515]

Oh god...He started ranting about "Big Pharma" ... No longer interested in anything that guy has to say...

And...FYI, I do know about ALS

Back on topic though...That water was cold as hell, mostly went down my pants...and...well...WAS DAMN COLD!

[Cuffy]

You bloody limeys must have all lost your minds
At this time of year in the UK the temperature must be running about 40F and the sun hasn't been seen in days
Inside, dry, and sipping a Pimms  Cup, or two, and some more, maybe one more , is the place to be.....
Wet knickers and a bucket over my head is not my idea of a good time
Maybe next time

[40hz]

Not to dis ALS research (which I have contributed money towards recently), but I still think the bucket of ice water thing is one of the most asinine promo/affinity stunts anybody ever came up with. It's kinda snarky too.

Dunno. Maybe it's just me, but I never found frat-house style "humor" and hijinks all that amusing.

[Tuxman]

The whole thing is not about cold water, it's about donations.

Don't play the fool. Donate instead.

Precisely. Just donate.

If you have still have bucket of ice water handy, use it to chill your bottles of Pilsner.

In part that... and...

Don't play the fool. Donate instead.

Precisely. Just donate.

No. I won't be held hostage by some kind of peer pressure for "charity".

"That makes you a bad person, Renegade!"

No. It makes me belligerent against flat out, in-your-face manipulation and emotional hijacking.

[Tuxman]

I haven't donated either and I won't, my yearly donations go to other organizations. I just meant: if you care, donate, if not, ignore those icy people.

They make a lot of good points in there.

I don't like the approach. Here's an identical approach:

"Donate to the Israel 'Bomb a Palestinian Fund', or shoot yourself in your face and film it."

This at some meta-level gets back to game theory and psychological warfare. My stock response as an acronym is "FO".

FWIW - Bill does it with some style:

(I'm not a fan of Bill in the least, but... he manages to pull that off rather well. Something to be said for production value in video there.)

I would rather not have an opinion on everything that happens. To me this is similar to when celebrities go to poor places and are shown helping the poor and/or adopting a child. 1000 awwws mixed with 1000 poking fun....to be honest neither is the right answer, if someone is being helped good if not a typed opinion won't change it.

[Renegade]

Perhaps it all was worthwhile!

That's because attention-seeking draws out the cynics.

True enough.

As one of the cynics, what I find particularly obnoxious is the "Do A or do B or you're a pussy/<insert insult>" dichotomy.

Good causes don't require psychological bullying.

Btw, just so you all realize...I did also donate to them, just thought it would be fun to do the challenge as well...always enjoyed making myself look like a fool haha

It was fun to see you!

The entire thing seems like fun. (Anyone ever done a polar bear swim?)

Except when you see some moron drop a 50 gallon garbage can filled with water on someone from a height of 3+ m in a failed attempt to pour water. That's got to hurt.

[mouser]

Stephen, ignore the negative posts -- thanks for putting yourself out there and encouraging us all to participate in something fun.

@S - I'm probably overly sensitive since I so often make myself look like a fool without intending to. No criticism towards you or the cause was intended.

[KynloStephen66515]

Lol no criticism taken guys xD

Btw...none of you are excused from the nominations lol

@Mouser - I don't think anybody was being negative. Just a little critical of some people feeling the need to always have drama whenever they're asked to do something. Whatever happened to giving to a worthy cause just because giving was the right thing to do?

I'm also noting how the activities are beginning to shift from passive actions (like walking or turning on your car headlights) to show your support, to more - shall we be polite and say marginally aggressive behaviors? I'm talking about things like shaving your head, or dumping ice water on it, to somehow "prove" your "commitment" to a cause. What's with this element of low-key personal humiliation that's beginning to creep into what traditionally has been considered "noble action?"

Makes me sometimes wonder what's going on here. Is this a trend we really want to encourage?

Just sayin'

Challenge declined.

[wraith808]

My favorites so far were Neil Gaiman, George RR Martin, Tom Cruise, and Hugh Jackman.

Oh, and Charlie Sheen!

No matter what you think about him... that was cool.

That was pretty cool! I like CS.

I'm sorry, but you don't get to issue a challenge then ignore those that reject the challenge.

If you want only positive opinions, then direct your inquiry at people that will respond positively. But don't throw a wide net and expect everyone to join in the circlejerk.

Anyone ever done a polar bear swim?

I did it many many years ago in Vancouver BC.  No Charities were involved, only liquor stores.
