Bug: Icons get switched around

[superboyac]

I'm finding another bug with the icons:
I'm bringing in new nodes (program shortcuts) and one of them caused an error (I forgot what it said).  I think the error might have been caused because the icon seemed to be really old school, like from Windows95.  The program was American heritage Dictionary v3.

Anyway, after that, I brought in more nodes.  Like FARR and Direct Folders...but the icons got all jumbled around.  The wrong icons show for the programs.

if you exit and restart, does the problem go away?

[mouser]

see if you can figure out what file or icon caused the error -- that would help a lot in terms of tracking it down.

[superboyac]

Actually, doing one of the icon maintenance things fixed it.  That or restarting, I'm not certain.  The error began with that American heritage Dictionary icon.  I've noticed this in the past with other really old-school looking icons.  Like, maybe they are programs that haven't been updated since Windows98 days.

ah yes, that is part of a new feature i introduced.  microsoft pays me a nickel every time one of my programs behaves badly with regard to outdated versions of windows -- helps them force people to upgrade.

tsk...mouser sold out...thought I'd never see the day.  OK, Zaine, I'm switching to Linux now.

[FondueAuFromage]

actually, if I can add my tuppence to this subject (the icon, not mouser's selling out!), I encountered the same issue, which was fixed with a reboot. Symptoms were the same as reported by superboyac (I guess).

This happened when drag/dropping a shortcut from my desktop into a menu in the Launchbar configuration window. It only ever happened with that one shortcut, which had the particularity of being a shortcut created by the installer of an application. Because of this, the shortcut, even though it is visible on my desktop (and that of every other login on my machine, I suppose), actually exists as "C:\Windows\Installer\[stupid big number]\_[other stupid big number].exe".

As a property, it is impossible to modify it much, and in particular it is impossible to change its icon. Could this also mean that LBC cannot retreive the icon information? It certainly tried to use the "c:\windows\..." path correctly.

I case you want to try to reproduce, you can download the related application here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Miscellaneous/DICOM-Inspector-NET.shtml. (I am not trying to advertise for them, note, although it is another rather excellent free application, if not applied to a somewhat specific field). I have also attached the "_[other stupid big number].exe" to this post, in case it helps, but I would not recommend running it in isolation.

'hope this helps!

it sounds like what is happening is:
LBC tried to get the icon, fails, but thinks it has added it, which messes up it's icon indices, causing items to match up to the wrong icons after that.  should be easy enough to fix, especially with a sample file that LBC fails to grab the icon from.

[FondueAuFromage]

yep, what you say matches exactly.

If I can be of any help, let me know!

[superboyac]

Thanks FondueAuFromage!  Best user name ever...

[FondueAuFromage]

just so you know: I just tried drag/dropping that file itself (rather than the shortcut), with the same behaviour.

Discovered the icons bug today too. Here is a simple example with Nirsoft apps. Note DotNetResourcesExtract has no icon in its exe. All the other icon are now one up.

i may try to post a fix this weekend.
question: those are manually added items right?  it's not showing the contents of a directory folder right?

Your're right, no folder content, added thought drag and drop.

Edit:
This bug also affects the tray-icon of the dock. This is now in last place, before GDIView, tray-icon is empty.

fixed; will be in next update.
