Instead of posting again again what extensions I have installed at the moment, I will express my longing for RichScrollbar; I really miss it! But the author gave up understanding how to update it for Firefox 3 :-(
Do 'you' have the knowledge to make it work?

For some hours I was also missing MinimizeToTray, because it hasn't been updated for Firefox 3, but I managed to find a fix :-) claiming this will keep it updated until Firefox 9.9.9 !!!

I made a hack that will allow installation to Firefox and Thunderbird up to version 9.9.9. Works in Firefox 3.0.4 perfectly.

here's the richscrollbar,
good to 4.0
change the name
from .zip to .xpi
then drop into an open firefox window and it will install

Curt · « **Reply #227 on:** November 23, 2008, 02:20 AM »

- so many Thanks to you, cmpm

However, in my setup it only works inside the little addons box, not in the big Firefox window.
Default theme.

Don't rush, it is late night around here, and I am off to bed, NOW.

cmpm · « **Reply #228 on:** November 23, 2008, 02:24 AM »

Yeah, same here after getting the right theme installed.
Just uninstall it and see if someone else can do better.

I use Classic Compact theme with large icons and no text.
Works great for me. But that richscrollbar is not for that theme.

I too really miss RichScrollbar

On some pages one can use Back to Top, but it really is a weakling...

Yeah, I use Back To Top, but it won't do what RichScrollBar does.
It's handy to get to the last post in this forum for example.

I also use KatMouse.
So I can scroll with the wheel on the mouse.
And it has some other perks also..

Curt · « **Reply #233 on:** November 23, 2008, 01:56 PM »

- oh yes, KatMouse, that's one of my favourites, too, :-) but I really had forgotten it can scroll an entire page at a time. I am not going to use this feature, though, as I prefer to scroll only a line, but Thanks for reminding me!

Also, Curt, if you want to try Classic Compact theme, there is also a Classic Compact Options add on.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=classic+compact

The first two of course.
Anyway, there is a setting in the options to make the scroll bar use windows style, which makes it wider and easier to use. It willl take a little bit for it to kick in, I thought it wasn't working and finally it changed to a wider scrollbar.

Set Scrollbars to OS Native (FF). In the options.
There's a lot you can change to make it look like the default theme also.

Worth a look imo.

Curt · « **Reply #235 on:** November 23, 2008, 02:20 PM »

- well, that's an.. ehh... efficient design!

Frankly, I am brand new to both Vista, Firefox 3, and the glass; I will take some time to enjoy the look (I have installed AeroFX theme for FF3, to get even more glass), before I maybe take up improving on efficiency.

If I move mouse up or down holding left button, All-In-One Mouse Gestures takes care of 'to top or bottom of page'...

Very customizable too!

Curt · « **Reply #237 on:** November 23, 2008, 02:27 PM »

- yes, Cat, I too have been wondering if I should import parts of mouse gestures. So far I haven't done it, because I really don't like these mouse gestures in general. But I would like this one feature, though, so maybe...

Hi friends, perhaps you may know an solution for me:
- in FF i have already an favorite folder for a few sides (URLs) i want to open as, say "default" .
--- so i launch FF, right click on my favorite folder and chose "open all in tabs"

But i would prefer an automation to launch those URLs at FF start automatically.
- so i start my pc
--- FF is in autostart
----- FF starts and launches URL-1 in tab, URL-2 in an another tab, URL-3...
-- i came back and all sides are loaded
Any idea?

THX in advance

By default, Firefox allows the setting of multiple homepages separated by the pipe or vertical bar character "|" (Note: it appears as a broken bar "¦" on many keyboards).

Now this works fine for opening multiple tabs every time the browser is started or the home button is clicked; however, it can slow down the browser startup.

Abterix:

Try these:

Speed Dial Firefox Extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810

Morning Coffee:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2677

Daily Bookmarks:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7814

Question:

How is Back to Top any different than pressing the Home and End keys?

Continued from my last collection:

1. No Squint - Adjust text and page zoom separately and saves it per site. A life saver for me when Opera's fit to width isn't cutting it out.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592

2. Sort by Size - combined with tab counter, this is my favorite extension for reading. Sorts your tabs based on their length so you read the shortest tab first.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9209

3. EasyComment - made me start responding to blogs. Auto-inserts Name and E-mail to wordpress blogs

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9095

4. Outwit Images - powerful advanced image crawler. Still no idea how to use it but it looks good.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9514

Curt · « **Reply #242 on:** November 23, 2008, 03:34 PM »

- Morning Coffee looks good. An answer to your question could be that they are the same but you don't press any keys at all if your hand is on the mouse.

Thanks to you and Paul.
I found an solution:
Extras > Settings... > Startpage > [use bookmark] > (click on the folder with your favorites) > and FF adds the URLs from that folder
separated with an "|" pipe-sign automatically

Fine!

"Autostart FF with an few default URLs"

- in FF i have already an favorite folder for a few sides (not more then 10 URLs) i want to open as, say "default" .
--- so i can launch FF, right click on my favorite folder and chose "open all in tabs"

But i would prefer an automation to launch those URLs at FF start automatically.
Here is how i do that:
Extras > Settings... > Startpage > [use bookmark] > (click on the folder with your favorites URLs) > and FF adds
the URLs from that folder separated with an "|" pipe-sign automatically as "start page" and opens them all in new tabs

- so i start my pc
--- FF is in autostart
----- FF starts and launches URL-1 in tab, URL-2 in an another tab, URL-3...
-- i came back and all sides are loaded

Now an automation would be nice to modify the start page as the favorite folder is modified.
I search for something like an script to use as "start page" to load all URLs from favorite folder named "default"
I will search if one could use an JS script as startpage.... the rest should be easy.

Thanks Curt.

Btw in my earlier reply I link to Outwit Images, what I meant was Outwit Hub.

It just has more features.

Extended Copy Menu has been mentioned by a few people here. As I found use for it today i just wanted to plug it.

The use i had was i wanted to be able to select a section of a web page and copy it as html -- with the href links and other html codes still in it. In essence this is like viewing the source and copying the relevant section of the source code -- just makes it a little easier.

Quote

Provides the option to copy selection as plain text or html.
It adds a "Copy As Html" and "Copy As Plain Text" to the context (right-click) menu. It is useful if you want to copy the text or underlying html from a web page into documents, posts or other applications.

I've recently become rather fond of Canaware's NetNotes application. Sort of a cross between TreeNotes and Taboo. It can be set up to work with either Firefox or Explorer.

Canaware NetNotes is a handy tool which offers you the ability to capture, save and organize your favorite Web pages into your own knowledge base.

You can capture a complete Web page or the portion you like such as images, specific paragraphs or source code snippets by a right-clicking in the Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox , and the potential dangerous scripts hidden in the Web page will be removed automatically.

You can also categorize, organize, view, edit and search the articles in the knowledge base with a WYSIWYG article editor.

How does NetNotes compare to Evernote or Scrapbook?

mwang · « **Reply #249 on:** March 24, 2009, 04:56 PM »

I've reinstalled Windows 7 beta and Linux several times lately, trying to find the best dual boot mix on my notebook (in terms of partition management). It's a good time to reflect on what I really use. I've found that with a fresh, empty Firefox, without peeking into the lengthy addon list on my desktop machine, I go and grab the following right away:

Autocopy
Lastpass
Foxmarks
Scrapbook+
Wired-Marker

The first four need no introduction here, but Wired-Marker seems rarely mentioned. It's a highlighter that stores the highlights locally. It doesn't capture the whole page (unlike scrapbook), but the highlights are there when you revisit the page. I use it when I want to highlight parts of a page that changes.

The obvious question is, if the page changes, how does Wired-Marker keep track of the exact locations of my highlights? I don't know the specifics. According to my experience, however, Wired-Marker does a pretty good job keeping tab. The only exception I know is, if a change is made in the same paragraph of a highlighted part, and is ahead of or overlaps with the highlighted part, then Wired-Marker loses track of that specific highlight. But other highlighted parts in the same page--either in other paragraphs or in the same paragraph but are before the change--won't be affected.

This isn't too bad for my purpose. Take Postfix Configuration Parameters page for example. It's a very long page since it documents every tweak you can make with Postfix. It changes quite often because the author keeps the references well updated (among the best in the industry); capturing it locally doesn't make sense. Most of the changes are nonetheless new parameters or new options for existing parameters. IOW, they usually come as new paragraphs. Wired-Marker highlights, as long as they don't span many pagagraphs, are thus quite safe.
