I bet when Cheetahs race and one of them cheats, the other one goes "Man, you're such a Cheetah!" and they laugh & eat a zebra or whatever.

Not yet.
Thanks.  I have read Unicode is on their roadmap for a future version.

To me the functionality is more important though, and the standard orthogonal file manager interface with NC compatible keyboard shortcuts
+1

Interestingly, xplorer² 3.0 is on its way, introducing Ribbons, the author said in his board. That's how it all diverges...

Was using old xplorer2 pro 1x previously and unwilling to upgrade but I found this one which has all similar pro features and free!

Has anyone tried Q-Dir performing multiple operations on large files?  It is updated so often I cannot keep up with the version numbers.  But I think the last time I tried this experiment was over 3 months ago.  Started copying a video file, over a GB, then do some other stuff while that was going on.  Totally got unstable on me.

MultiCommander is supposed to be truly multi-threaded. I have it installed but haven't done anything with it yet.  I have too many hotkey things that pop up Explorer windows.  :)

I use twin windows instead of default 4, seems to work fine.

Did you think of trying out the free version of XYplorer, XYplorerFree? Current release is 15.50.0200 (10-Aug-2015), so it's up to date.  Free vs. Pro feature comparison here.  It might have a substantially different feel from xplorer2, though.  Plus there's FreeCommander, which has a standard twin-pane look.

Depends. It has quite a lot of features indeed. Sadly, the wrong ones.

Yes. tried it, didn't quite like the way the icon/files are displayed. They are too big ,and take too much space.

I'm happy with QDir so far, there is only small annoying feature about how the tabs are displayed that I hope it will be resolved in future. I don't understand by what you mean by wrong features, I see everything there can be customized.

Power Desk...brings back a lot of memories for me.  One of the first programs I geeked out on.  Definitely my first alternative file browser.

First as in historical perceptive, perhaps.  First, as in choice today: No way!

I used PowerDesk for many years, going back to Windows 95, when it was part of the Mijenix Fix-It Utilities package. After Ontrack bought Mijenix, the original developers formed a new company called Novatix and brought out a similar program called ExplorerPlus, which went nowhere. Ontrack did little development and eventually sold PowerDesk to VCOM, another software company that maintains orphan software without further development and sells it based on past reputation. It then passed on to Avanquest - same thing.

PowerDesk 6 was the last worthwhile version, but I haven't used it in nearly a decade.

My file manager of choice for the last 5 years has been XYplorer.

PowerDesk was a wonderful file manager back in the day. I think I used every version up to version 6 or so. Sadly, these days the only usefulness PowerDesk serves is being a cheap, cost-effective way to get the Stellent/Outside-In/QuickView Plus functionality installed on a PC.

Just a note for those who may be interested in trying MultiCommander.  The help has been updated.  Now there are detailed instructions how to create User Defined Commands including Custom Commands.  See this link for Creating User Defined Commands

Edit: You can assign the command to a button.  Also it can be entered on the input line.  Anything not recognized is passed on to Windows to process.

Today I received an e-mail that the release of Nomad.NET 4 is planned soon. It seems to be shaping up nicely.

Hm, I'll have to check it out. I looked at waaaay too many file managers recently to replace the Windows built-in, and I should have written down the feature or lack that took each one out of the running. Nomad.net was one of them that I tried for awhile.
