Thanks for that mouser. Took your advice and changed it to ALT + the arrow keys for changing the size.

@kip

Avast warns for Malware. See attachment.

given the nature of the program, this could well be a false positive..

It's the setup program that does that, not MouseShade 2.

lanux128 · « **Reply #29 on:** September 14, 2007, 02:11 AM »

that's interesting.. i'll download & see if AVG picks up anything..

lanux128 · « **Reply #30 on:** September 14, 2007, 03:12 AM »

as i was installing the program, i peeked into the temp folder & noticed that this file - fngkhlib.dll - is the one triggering the alert.. a cursory check at google shows that it has been flagged down as a potential "grayware".. so maybe kip or someone well-versed can give a better explanation..

I think it's due to the fact that its a hook dll, which could potentially send keyboard entries to a third party. As a keyboard hook its probably been identified as such by name in the database as having the potential for misuse. I've never had a problem with any other software, and most of my other stuff is tested and verified problem free at many sites including Softpedia, OATS etc. None of my AV and Anti Spyware has a prob with it, McAfee, Counterspy etc.

mouser · « **Reply #32 on:** September 14, 2007, 11:15 AM »

kip has it exactly right, any legitimate program that uses a global "keyboard hook" to catch characters typed has a high chance of being flagged by antivirus programs, it's a bit annoying for developers who need keyboard hooking functionality in order to catch keys pressed by the user when in another window.

ps -- i think in this case kip you could just register global hotkeys instead of using a keyboard hook since your app only needs to watch for a couple of keys.

kip · « **Reply #33 on:** September 14, 2007, 05:11 PM »

Took your advice and used global hotkeys mouser. OK folks, hopefully you won't get any problems with this now, hook dll has been dropped.

mouser · « **Reply #34 on:** September 14, 2007, 05:21 PM »

works beautifully.. the resizing is perfect.

ps.
i think its still trying to load the dll even though its not installed or needed, as it complained to me on startup that it couldnt find the dll, even though it worked find without it.

ps2.
another tiny suggestion: maybe put a hint somewhere in tray menu about the resizing hotkeys? just an idea since i find it really useful and it would be nice to have a reminder about them.

kip · « **Reply #35 on:** September 14, 2007, 07:11 PM »

Found a reference to the hook in the Uses section and removed it. Hopefully that will prevent it looking for it.
Added
1. Help file opens after install to indicate which keys to use
2. Mouse over indicates to use ALT and Arrow keys to resize.

Use same link to download

Thanks kip.

Those who would like a portable version of MouseShade, run the installer, copy mouseshade.exe and mouseshade.hlp to a folder of your choice, and then completely uninstall the program. Run the .exe file. MouseShade will save the your settings in the application folder.

anjan_oleti: notice that i won't be able to do something as good as MouseLight, and it costs only 2.27 EUR

Looks like they drastically raised their price or something on this. Their site now shows it to cost $14.95 Euro and $19.95 USD. I was real interested in their ScreenInk app too last week when I saw that and went back to investigate getting both and Whoa!

WOW!! I bought both screenink and mouselight a couple of days ago for a TOTAL of $5.01 - australian dollars. Talk about inflation.

I went there intending to purchase both apps too, until I saw the new prices, which would be $59.90 USD now!

lanux128 · « **Reply #43 on:** September 24, 2007, 10:57 AM »

Just what I was looking for ... and even better than I expected. Thanks!

Only thing I would add, is a keyboard shortcut to hide and/or show.

Thanks again

Avira Premium is flagging that download as ADSPY/Rabio.IY - For What That's Worth...

kip · « **Reply #46 on:** May 08, 2010, 09:52 PM »

tomos, this is actually a false positive. It was checked with both Norton and McAfee ,as well as Malwarebytes before it ever went live. To date it has been downloaded 12000 times, for some strange reason it is very popular in Italy and Japan - where a lot of the major corporations use it. All this without any flags being raised regarding virus, trojan or spyware problems, so I think its probably safe to say that this is an erroneous flag from from your AV software.
