Alan: Here at DC we have a policy that people can recommend their own software, as long as they mention they are related to the product.
From a quick google search, it's obvious that you are associated with the product, and most probably its author (see here).

Just a heads up for anyone considering XYplorer, its price will be making a jump in 2010:

Another reason to spend money for another file manager. Don't support DOpus-like capitalism.

Sure, but it is just a file manager (although a good one indeed). $74.95 (still a quite high value in real money) is too much IMHO.
He could ofc take the double of that, and someone could willingly pay that. But ... come on: $74.95 for a file manager?!

(Yep, I take the lifetime license as my point here. To me, all other license types are just paid trials.)

Office 2007... not worth a single cent.

However, back to topic: Right, a file manager is the most-used application on most systems. But does that mean that it automatically has to be more expensive than other, maybe even more sophisticated applications on your system?

If a price would depend on the product's usage, I wonder if the Firefox guys were millionaires...

personally I don't see $75USD value in it

At least you got my point here.

Firefox generates millions of dollars.

Not really, you're saying that it's over-priced. I'm saying that for me it's not worth the money - it's not my preferred manager so it wouldn't be worth $10 to me - let alone $75. Others who use it all the time are easily getting $75 worth of value from it.

Forgetting for a moment the brand of file manager, regardless which you prefer, software which is used constantly is easily worth the price of dinner and a movie.

There is little reason that software should be treated differently than other commodities (unless you want to get into the open source and FOSS debates  ) DOpus is, if not the most expensive, among the most expensive of its kind. Whether the feature set justifies it and sets it apart from others of its kind is only up to each individual user.

well said

I think cost-wise that XYplorer at current lifetime licence for $44.95US is very worth snapping up. I do miss some things from DOpus (didnt upgrade to version 9, bought XY instead) but I suspect I'd also miss things if I was migrating the other direction. XY is much more affordable and being developed very actively.
If I had the money though, I'd buy both

Users speaking German might also want to try Expicula which looks promising indeed.

De nada.
Just stumbled upon it and thought it could be a valid alternative.

I have a license for several file managers, but the one I keep actually using besides Explorer is Q-Dir (the Unicode version). Now at version 4.28

Steady as a rock, and with this oh so useful "Quadruped-View" window ;-)

For awhile I kept trying this one.  Looks like the author tries to perfect it. But it seems like every time I try to do something while something else is happening, the window goes white and it stop responding(well, not "every time" but a high enough percentage that I gave up on it.)

I like the idea of it.  Just seems like the threading is too fragile.

edit: this may be exacerbated by large files.  I tend to move around multi-GB files. If all the drag & drop are trivial files then it handles it. It just seems like once you put a load on it by having a long file copy in the background, it can't deal with it unless you just leave it sit 'til completion.
