Firefox 2.0.0.4 released today. You can get it through the links on CyberNet News (they are links to mozilla's load balancing servers, so it's legit).

CyberNet is reporting that

117 bugs that have been fixed in Firefox 2.0.0.4, of which 24 caused crashes, 2 were memory leaks, 18 were regressions, 2 were privacy-related bugs and 12 were security-sensitive. So, as always, the upgrade is highly recommended.

12 security fixes? Hmmm, this is starting to sound like IE. Is it just me? I bet if opera got the same amount of exposure as either of these two, we would see the same thing. This just proves that no application is "more secure" than any other.

Same goes for the Windows vs. Mac/OSX thing.

The whole "more secure" thing is really getting old. Especially when we know better.

On a different note altogether - I'm running FF 2.0.0.3 and it's not picking up the update... Guess I'll have to do it manually. Ah, just read this at the link Carl pointed us to:

It wont pick it up for at least 3 days. It takes mozilla far longer than MS to get an update posted At least with MS you know it will be available on the second tuesday of the month.

The most reliable Java is from filehippo.com.
I've heard a number of complaints about SunJava's download sites.
Though I believe it's the best Java, where you get it makes a diff.
At least this is what I've heard about SunJava to date.

Check your 'program files' file and see if there is any problems like ? or !.
Delete them. Uninstall java and reinstall from filehippo.com.

Personally I loaded NetBeans also, just for fun.
There is also Java development tools there, as you probably already know.

That's a poor coding job on the extensions' creator part. It's as simple as 2.0.0.*. Why do they want to tie up an extension to an specific build is beyond my comprehension, as the API don't change between point updates. So silly...

i've been running Fx 2.0.0.4 for a couple of hours now and so far everything has been smooth and i *only* had to edit two of the extensions to work with the new version..

Mr. Tech Local Install (extension) adds a choice to the extension manager's right click menu to override version incompatibility, making it unnecessary to edit old extensions.

this setting can also be enabled via about:config with an entry called "extensions.checkCompatibility" but i prefer manual editing as it is more useful when determining which extensions are not updated by default..

finally home for weekend and this computer didnt like tha java extension?? either (i thought it was a plug in but no matter) the nightly tester tools fixed it with a restart of firefox after telling it to make all compatible
