Free text/file comparison tool?

[moerl]

I'm looking for a free alternative to <A HREF="http://www.scootersoftware.com/">Beyond Compare</A>/<A HREF="http://www.ultraedit.com/index.php?name=Content&pid=34">IDM's UltraCompare</A>

Anyone know of one? Thanks

Oh snap.. I really should do MORE searching before I make threads about topics: http://www.thefreecountry.com/programming/filecomparison.shtml
I'll try "Winmerge".

Along with the payware Pro version, there's a free version of ExamDiff

Brief notes on a few more at http://keithdevens.com/wiki/diff

VIM!
(through vimdiff)
Although winmerge is pretty good.
I also like eclipse's diff, but that's much more related to code.

Let me be the first to suggest the excellent WinMerge!

A couple other compare utilities to consider are p4merge from Perforce and TortoiseMerge by the guys who distribute TortoiseSVN.  Both are free.  For details see this post:
