Knology Connection Speed Test

[Ruffnekk]

I stumbled upon a nice graphical connection speed test at http://speedtest.knology.net/. Take a look at the screenshot for an example (my own result).

Very imprecise here, which is typical of those pretty tools

It lists me as 1.91mbps/437kbps, while I'm on a 4096/512 line...

[Ruffnekk]

I'm on 4096/1024 so upload is pretty accurate, but download isn't

f0dder: you think that's bad? I'm on a 24mpbs/400kbps line. Here are my results:

(notice that my line is "up to 24mpbs",i only really have something like 10mbps usually)

[f0dder]

Heh, that's just plain silly

Anyway, I just tested kernel.org, fetching 2.6.20 full, with plain firefox (no download manager). Cancelled the download when I had reached 320kb/s. With a download manager, or when grabbing torrents, I usually hit ~420kb/s or so.

[Ruffnekk]

@JGP: wow that's a way off result! Look at the round trip time and max pause...

[jgpaiva]

Well... I just tested kernel.org and got bad results (something around 100kb/s).
From darkstar which is my university's mirror, i get something around 600kb/s with opera.
I also get itunes from apple's server at 600kb/s. (notice that i HATE itunes, i just chose it because it was the first large download that came to mind)

[f0dder]

~430kb/s grabbing arch-0.7.2.iso from darkstar - not bad . I guess kernel.org is having a bad day, I usually get good speeds from there...
