Tool to open skn files, skinning FARR
« on: February 24, 2026, 10:34 PM »
Hi All

Anyone know what tool can be used to open and modify the skn files? I'm sure I've done this in the past, but its been a very very very long time.

.skn isn't universal, and different companies use files for changing appearance and name them .skn. I'd try a text editor first to see if it's actually plain text underneath. If it's not, you're going to have to find the tool for whatever you're using the .skn for.

Thanks wraith808.

Turns out it was mentioned in the release notes in the very detailed help. Just incase anyone else is looking for this info you can use "VclSkin Builder version 5" from linkrank.

Good find, VclSkin Builder is usually the right tool for that format. Might help to mention which app or framework the .skn came from since the extension isn’t standardized.

Yes I've used VLCSkin Builder successfully. It was some years back but I checked today and the builder.zip from link-rank.com is still identical to the version I used then, so should work.
