Donating Prizes for NANY 2017?

[mouser]

I was thinking maybe we could have members donate some prizes to be given away to NANY 2017 coders.

I have a few older laptops that are in ok condition and are still quite usable that I could donate.  And possibly an android tablet or two.

Donors of prizes would choose who to give their prizes to, and donors would pay shipping costs (so it will cost you a bit to donate a gift!).

Thoughts?

There are a couple of things with this - first of all, being that shipping.  I have something I'd be more than happy to contribute, but shipping it overseas would be prohibitive, so I'd want to do domestic, but that doesn't seem fair.  And then there's the idea of if they'd even want it.  How could we surmount these issues?

[mouser]

I figure these would be purely optional bonus little prizes.. so no one entering in NANY will be able to expect anything..  So if someone wants to offer up a prize it may be that no one will want it, and it may be that for cost reasons it can only be shipped within the same country.  They would just be some extras that might be available to spice things up.  Mugs (or tshirts) will go out to everyone who enters as normal.

The fine folks at Help And Manual and Beyond Compare, two of my favorite developer tools, have agreed to donate some copies to give away to participants in this year's NANY.

I have some spare games from humble bundles if that can interest you

[mouser]

I think what we should do is people can volunteer stuff after NANY, and then each participant can request what they want, so yeah, there may be games that participants want.

The makers of Helpinator, another excellent help authoring tool, have donated some copies of their software for us to give away.

[mouser]

These are some pretty great rewards.. should be enough to wake up any slacking coders still on the fence about participating..

[BGM]

That Help & Manual is an A-1, excellent application.  I have a licensed copy and I use it to make all the documentation for the apps I write - even the ones for NANY.

[mouser]

All participants get a mug of course.. But how should we decide who gets the other donated prizes?
Any participants see a prize they particularly want?

But how should we decide who gets the other donated prizes?

Idea:
All NANY 2017 participants get to evaluate all entries except their own, and can only give each score (1-10) once. (Suggestion/appraisal by other members is ofcourse allowed )
Most points entry's author wins first pick from the prize list. Then down the list.
Any author can pick only once/one prize, even with multiple entries/high-scores.
Fair?
Edit: dropped as we don't rate NANY entries

[mouser]

It's may be "fair" but I think on reflection you'll agree it's not quite in line with the spirit of NANY, where we try not to judge and rank contributions.

So I think what I'm looking for here is for NANY participants to let me know if there is one of the extra "prizes" that they think they can make good use of for future programming projects, and then we can see where we stand..

Yup, that's true, didn't take that in account. I'll just drop my idea.

I'd be interested in Beyond Compare, but I'm a heavy user of Compare It! (shareware by Grigsoft, development stopped), so I'm not sure if I'd be the best candidate for that. There are probably others that will make better use of BC

I could need a new laptop.

I just noticed that my copy of ExamDiff has expired  , so I'd step in here.
