The WinPatrol September Newsletter

We are proud to announce the return of Lifetime Licenses during the pre-beta sale of the latest member to our product family, WinAntiRansom!

Better yet, if you own a subscription license for WinPatrol, WinPrivacy or both, we'll convert them into a Lifetime license with the purchase of WinAntiRansom!

Why would we do that? Because we feel strongly about security and know our products provide first rate security in an innovative, non-intrusive manner not available in other products.

The trio of WinPatrol, WinPrivacy and WinAntiRansom makes for a formidable defense against the bad guys.

But remember, when the pre-beta sale ends, so does the availability of lifetime licenses. Act now, before it is too late.

Just to point this bit out, because it's pretty major too for those lamenting the subscription licenses:

I notice the WinPatrol (Plus) page currently offers a lifetime license @20$ -- actually I dont see any other options.
(I'm not sure what price the subscription was/is.)

[wraith808]

Right... the lifetime license is for every purchase for a limited time- it's just that if you already have a subscription purchase, your subscription is automatically upgraded with a $15 charge for WinAntiRansom.  At least, that's what the e-mail said.

[tomos]

^ yeah, was just pointing that out for those that dont have subscription licences. (I have one lifetime license myself. This offer looked interesting - so thought I'd check out the subscription license to see if worth getting that, and *then* going for the offer - but there was only the lifetime license on offer.)

Buy NOW! Pre-Beta Sale ENDS FOREVER in 3½ hours from "now"! "Pre-beta sale ends October 17th 2015!"

... but please remember, WinAntiRansom is not an Antivirus product and does not scan your computer or remove programs from disk. We merely block them from running and alert you, so that you can scan your computer with your Antivirus.

By default we will allow all Microsoft protected programs and those known to be safe, as well as give you the ability to "whitelist" programs for WinAntiRansom to automatically allow.

I can't seem to find a family pack?

And now that I am looking, I cannot find family packs for any of their products anymore, it just says "Use on up to 5 computers
you personally use".

Curt, I see your image says sale ends November 17th (?)

The beta_WinAntiRansom offer has ended, the most important words were >3½ hours from "now"< (17'th October). First the pictured popup bundle offer (17'th November) was $35 plus VAT = $43.69, but a few minutes later it was $45 plus VAT = $56.19 However, I have the bundle keys, so I didn't bother to think any deeper.

[Curt]

The lifetime bundle offer is still on (now ending 17'th of November)! This may be was a direct link to the cart: [now outdated]

The pricing for WinAntiRansom on the website is all mixed up. The web page describing the product says $14.95. If you click on the buy with PayPal link, it tells you $29.95, and if you click on the credit card link, it tells you $19.95.

You're using an old link.  https://www.winpatrol.com/WinAntiRansom/

That other link is expired, though he should have removed it as people would still have the link.  That one above is consistent in pricing at $29.95.

[Curt]

Unfortunately, CWuestefeld is also right, the links are mixed up. So, Look where you're going!

[CWuestefeld]

Well, I jumped in and bought it. Earlier this year my wife's work computer was hit with RansomWare. It's not pretty.

My intention was to use it to whitelist processes allowed to interact with my most important data. That's variously stored in D:\Project, P:\ for my photos, etc. But as far as I can see in WinAntiRansom, you can only designate one part of the filesystem (a non-root, non-virtual directory) below which everything is protected. That means I can only use it to protect *one* such area, not all of them. And that makes it almost useless.

It is still in Beta, so I must encourage you to post at http://www.landzdown.com/winantiransom/

Why the Doberman mascot?
Andy

When creating WinAntiRansom we realized the power of what we were writing and the fact that we were treading into uncharted territory. With this in mind, we began a search for our mascot. We wanted a dog up to such a challenge.

Upon reading about the heroism of the Doberman's used in World War II, we knew we had found the one! Now to pick a name. All of the stories we read were inspiring, but we had to decide on just one name. It was not an easy decision, but after much consideration we chose Andy, in honor of the Dobe who led "the Raiders" inland on the first day of the attack on Bougainville.

Now, he is leading us in our fight against Cyber Criminals and Ransomware.

I'll chance WinAntiRansom for myself, but wondering if there's any opinions here on whether this is worth recommending to others?

(it's ~18$US atm for lifetime license)

The new license type is no longer a lifetime key, but an annual subscription.

wondering how that affects owners of lifetime keys
They do say (from your link above Curt):

Does this mean you are going to have to want more money from us to use WAR?

NO

If you own a license for WinAntiRansom PLUS all you need to do is download the upgrade and you get our AntiMalware protection for no extra charge. It is best to use the tray application to disable protection prior to installing the upgrade.

Appears to respect the lifetime license -- but it's not explicitly stated

[Curt]

they will honour the lifetime key

until someone buys the entire program
