Ask this question of your significant other, or of a workmate.
If you don't have a significant other or workmate you can answer this question yourself.

What's your favorite key on the keyboard? (why?).
Please don't everyong pick the same key, it will make the others feel bad.

My significant other's asleep. but mine would be the TAB key.
The tab key does all cool kindsof things.
It indents text, it switches between windows (alt-tab), it auto-completes text (in console),...

Oh... I also like tab, but my favourite would have to be ctrl.
I like how i constantly press it to go back and forth in opera, and while writing, ctrl+backspace erases the whole word, and ctrl+left/right goes a word to the left/right.
Definitelly, a very useful key :D

It's not a key on the keyboard but I use it a lot... The reset button :P Yeah it's really useful imho. Otherwise, the key I use mostly is Tab :D

I'm quite partial to the ol' new line key... Ya know, "Enter" ;)
Quite hard to get things done without it...

My keyboard has a Power button, I find it very convenient to avoid bending down to reach the case.

i think, in all seriousness, that the 'win' key is the best key every created.

why?

because it allows you to create even more keyboard hotkey shortcuts that don't intefere with ctrl, shift, alt combinations that are already defined.

i love you win key.

I like Z or more precisely Ctrl + Z - it is the single best invention since the wheel!

I probably use Ctr+Shift+Esc more than any other keys on my XP machines...  :(

Ampa, you are right about ctrl + z but i think that's cheating - i thought this was meant to be about a single key...

My most favorite key is D minor...  :D
Seriously, I agree that Ctrl-Z (or Apple-Z on my Mac Mini) is the best invention ever !

It's hard to pick a favourite. But probably CTRL, because it's used a lot in keyboard shortcuts. Also, almost no program reacts to a CTRL without a combination key, so CTRL is usually what I use to bring a PC out of monitor standby mode.

TAB is also very nice, indenting as well as tabbing between programs (which requires AltGr+TAB here). On the topic of AltGr, with a Danish keyboard layout I need it to produce chars like @£${[]}| - located on 2347890 and key-left-of-backspace, respectively. (Remind me to start switching to US layout when programming, since those chars are mapped a lot nicer there. Yes, I am fluent with US layout as well, because of the old DOS days.)

Win key is also nice - I use Win+R a lot, as well as Win+E. Also, the context-menu WinKey is a lifesaver.

I hate those keys, all the keyboards I've seen have had them located so I hit them accidentally. I really do miss volume up/down on my vanilla IBM keyboard, though :(

Allen sits in the amber glow of a Deck keyboard, enjoying its rugged durability and compact design . . . little does he know its unconventional key placement will be the cause of confusion and, perhaps, the thing to rekindle his marriage.

Allen: What's your favorite key on the keyboard?

Heidi: Huh? Oh, you should know that.  I like the little squiggly one that's usually . . . right here.  But you don't have it?

Allen points to a space next to the space bar

Heidi: Yeah, that. I like it because it's kinda cute.

Allen nods, "Yeah, me too."

Heidi: We're in love again!

Allen: No, you stole my favorite key.

Also known as the "console key" in games inspired by Quake :). On Danish keyboards, what is the tilde key to you is ½/§ (no-shift/shift). Our tilde is located on the key right left of enter, and requires and altgr combo.

Go into Illustrator Help and search for Transform Pattern.

Sorry I don't know Illustrator well enough to know if it makes sense (it came in Creative Suite CS2 but I don't use Illustrator very much).
