How do they raise the money?
I bet when Cheetahs race and one of them cheats, the other one goes "Man, you're such a Cheetah!" and they laugh & eat a zebra or whatever.

By selling the tear drops from the kids in their sweat-shop(s)?
The easy path is usually downhill...

By SoftMaker paying them for each download?

Basically SoftMaker is giving money to this charity (owned by SoftMaker?) in exchange for getting more people to download their freeware version.

Interestingly, this used to be the full commercial version in previous years.

Yes, I think it's probably version 2010 (the current version is 2012).  Several years ago, I took advantage of an offer to get an old version of SoftMaker Office for free, and that later entitled me to buying the current commercial version as an upgrade rather than having to pay full price.

Out of curiosity, whose sweat shops are you talking about?

Do you think those registration keys that get sent out when you buy their software just appear out of nowhere?

Like convicts churning out automobile license plates, clearly the regkeys are produced by children in a warehouse with chains on the doors...

Yes, I think it's probably version 2010 (the current version is 2012).

It's a heavily feature degraded version of 2012, there was comparison chart, (PDF), on the site but it seems to have been removed.

Found it here.

This charity-promotion is on again till 24th of December:
http://www.loadandhelp.com/en/

(they request name/email/country details)
Softmaker donates 10c (Euro) for every download.

there was comparison chart, (PDF), on the site but it seems to have been removed.

Found it here.
4wd's link is still valid:
they've updated the comparison, now compared with Softmaker 2016.

Note the Softmaker FreeOffice homepage says:
> It is licensed for home and business use.
