I think you'd be happier storing that sort of thing on your own PC and optionally synchronizing with something like DropBox or GoToMyPC if you really needed remote access to your files.

Or just use SkyDrive and OneNote. That would also allow other OneNote/Skydrive users to collaborate with you on research projects.
