Hello,

I requested a portable version of Screenshot Captor at PortableApps.com.
for details, see here: http://portableapps.com/node/29891

Mauser wrote there:

I'm the author of Screenshot Captor, and some of the other programs at DonationCoder.com.
I'm a fan of PortableApps.

One of the developers at PortableApps.com asked for permission to publish "Screenshot Captor portable".
So, Mauser, please answer his question at the PortableApps.com posting.
Thank you!

Thanks for the heads up, I have replied.

Hello Mouser,

meanwhile the portable version (alpha) is released.
URL: http://portableapps.com/node/30465

I had a look at it and found some bugs, also a List index out of bounds (-1) error.
And I also have a guess what the problem might be.

Can you please have a look at the portable version (and my comments there).
Maybe there is something that you can improve in Screenshot Captor.
Thank you, Mouser!

Greetings

Should it be called donationware instead of freeware?
Possibly with a link to mouser's donation page here?

(mouser may not care, I dont know, I just throwing out the idea...)

Hi Ollu. I'll look into it -- I should be able to fix the issues this week.

If you want to I can post in the Portable Apps Forum that it should be "Donationware".

Hello Mouser,

at Portable Apps there is a new release (Development Test 2) of Screenshot Captor released.
There are some new bugs in the package process (not your fault).

But there is one error message that seems to come from Screenshot Captor.
Message Title: Screenshot Captor
Message Text: '40.0' is not a valid floating point value.
Edit: more details about this error message you get here: http://portableapps.com/node/30465#comment-188637

Can you please have a look at this?
If it is really a problem with Screenshot Captor, then you should try to fix it.
Thank you!

When will it be released?

this week.

check out this thread for beta:
http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=29744.0

note that the portable version now is a separate download that comes in a zip file, and is already configured to run portably with no special changes.

Olli, I'd love to hear if you could test the current portable zip beta and tell me what portable issues remain so i can fix them.

Hello,

the List index out of bounds bug in the portable version of Screenshot Captor is still existing!

Here the original message from the PortableApps forum:

Quote

I took a screenshot and added an clipart object (in the right toolbar the yellow icon with the mountain on it).
A list of cliparts is shown.
When I scroll down the list (using the scroll bar) I get the following Error messages:

Message 1: List index out of bounds (-1)
Message 2: Invalid pointer operation
Message 3: Unknown software exception (after closing SC via the system tray icon)
Message 4: Abnormal program termination (after pressing OK in the unknown software exception)

Can you please have a look at this?

mouser,

We're having a discussion right now at PortableApps.com that will directly affect whether or not we include Screenshot Captor on our site. Would you mind weighing in?

Here's the specific topic: http://portableapps.com/node/34908#comment-200398

Thanks!

mouser · « **Reply #19 on:** October 22, 2012, 11:26 PM »

Thanks very much for the invitation and heads up ve4jhj, I've posted a reply. Whatever you guys decide is fine with me, I appreciate the thoughtfullness of the discussion

Hello mouser,

for Screenshot Captor there is only an older portable version (4.5.0) available at PortableApps.com available:
http://portableapps.com/node/30465

The next problem is, that Screenshot Captor Portable is an "Development Test" version and not a "Official Portable Version".
Original Portable Apps are automatically updated via the PortableApps Plattform (a launcher as shown here: http://portableapps.com/)

I told you that I work as an Ergonomic Engineer and Usability Engineer.
We are here now 9 people in our team and ALL of us want to use Screenshot Captor.
The problem is that all other users except me have no Admin rights, so all of my colleagues can not install applications.
We can use portable versions, but not install applications.

It wold really be cool, when Screenshot Captor would be available as official PortableApps application that is automatically updated by the PortableApps Plattform.
I know you offer a "normal" portable Version at your site, but this must be updated manually.
Details about packaging an application in the PortableApps format can be found here: http://portableapps.com/development

Please consider this idea.
Thank you!

Greetings

You don't need the portableapps-version.
Download the portable zip-version right from donotioncoder at:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html

A PortableApps version has the advantage, that it is automatically updated to the current version as soon as mouser uploads a new version to PortableApps.com
When I use the portable version from this website, then I always have to update the portable version on each PC manually (we have some "specialists" that can not perform this, so this is my job).

Additional Important information
The boss of PortableApps (John T. Haller) wrote in this posting: http://portableapps.com/comment/200392#comment-200392
that Screenshot Captor contains Nagware (the registration reminder), so it will not be published at PortableApps.
So if you plan to release a PortableApps version, please remove the registration reminder there.
Thank you!

There is the DC Updater application that does this for you also.

That's not the substance of that thread IMO. There was never a decision reached.

Also, you can look to see that mouser responded, but there was never a definitive response.

http://portableapps.com/node/34908

I'm not sure of the substance of any response- mouser would have to weigh in on that.

Anybody else notice that thread it 3 years old?
