There is a review here: http://www.donationcoder.com/Reviews/Archive/VirtualMachine/index.html

What is the difference between Workstation 5 and GSX Server?

[Rover]

VMWare Server & VMWare Workstation 5 are not the same.  Basically the (now) free VMWare Server is the former VMWare ESX.  It requires a Host Operating System to run; GSX does not, it runs on the Raw Hardware.

See their site for full details.  http://www.vmware.com/

I said that backwards by the way... ESX runs on the hardware... GSX run inside and OS.
