FreewareGenius has a write up today about a (new?) free downloading tool StreamTransport.  Sounds promising, and even seems to have some url capturing features like those found in URL Snooper?

Quote
The app is able to browse and download video clips from video hosting websites of HTTP, RTMP, RTMPT, RTMPE, RTMPTE protocol, and these cover overwhelming majority of websites such as Hulu, Veoh, Boxee, Joost, YouTube, Yahoo Video, CBS, etc.  The URL of any video clip that is playing will be auto-captured and listed out for your convenience, and you can download it with one click or just ignore it. There is no bother to add URL manually.

I have answers to your questions:

1. Yes, it is new.
2. It only detects the urls when going to a site that has them. So, its not like URL Snopper (which detects URLs by sniffing the network packets being received) yet.

It seems to grab cable "rewind episodes" with minimal hassles so I'm happy with it so far. Only ran into one minor stability issue, but I think it's more an issue with the machine I loaded it on rather than the app itself.

A new version of it has been recently released. Many bugs have been fixed in it.

I went to download Stream Transport and found the site blocked by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware's IP Protection feature.  It claimed it was protecting me from malicious IP 95.211.13.68.  This apparently is the IP for Stream Transport; my guess is that it shares this IP number with some unsavory sites.  In the past, when questions have been raised in the Malwarebytes forum about seemingly innocent sites being blocked, the answer has been that if a site shares an IP address with malicious sites, there's nothing to prevent the malicious site from doing its evil on your computer when you seek to go to the innocent site, since the site is reached by IP number, not domain name.

I turned off Malwarebytes' IP protection to go to the site, downloaded Stream Transport, installed it, turned IP Protection back on, and tried to use Stream Transport, but again Malwarebytes blocked it.  So unless I'm willing to trust that IP number enough to put it on Malwarebytes' Ignore List, I won't be able to use Stream Transport.  Does anyone have any further information or advice about this?

The IP address is also used by some sex sites situated in Holland / the Netherlands
However, Outpost Security Suite is not reacting, so I wouldn't be too scared.

Thanks, Curt.  That's good to know.  But how come DNSInspect didn't list streamtransport.com among those who use that IP number?

- I know nothing about how this really works

But:

I guess these tests don't include valuation of security

wwwstreamtransport.com has one IP number , which is the same as for streamtransport.com, via cname , but the reverse is wwwl-1002.evo.ams.nl.leaseweb.com. u22.net, awhm.nl, w-ix.com, ifhp.org, idera.nl and at least 62 other hosts point to the same IP. streamtransport.com is a domain controlled by two nameservers at domaincontrol.com. They are on different IP networks. Incoming mail for streamtransport.com is handled by one mailserver at qq.com. wwwstreamtransport.com is ranked #541863 world wide as streamtransport.com and is hosted on a server in Netherlands. Trustworthiness, vendor reliability and privacy of this site is good. Child safety is excellent. (more on reputation).

It is not listed in any blacklists.

It was Any FLV Downloader (http://www.any-flv-downloader.com) but just recently changed name to StreamTransport. Anyway, I suspect it is part of the Moyea Spam Software Company ring.

This software is promoted by spam

Thanks for the additional information.  I'm now thinking I'll not bother with Stream Transport.  There are lots of programs that will do similar things without triggering Malwarebytes warnings.  And the spam connection PhilB mentioned concerns me as well.  It may be that Stream Transport is fine, but I don't need it enough to run any risks.

A new version of StreamTransport (1.0.2.1700) is now available. You can get it at its homepage (http://www.streamtransport.com).

Its now at v1.1.2.0. You can get it via the download button on its homepage. It contains offers which can be stopped from showing by using Unchecky. The reason for them is because they got to get money somehow (Paypal isn't an option since they stopped allowing donations to people in the country they work from).
