I use a variety of related program$, because none of them will do it all, on its own, and in general I like to try this and that. Of course there will be quite some overlapping..., and expenses.

1) PS Hot Folders
2) FileBox eXtender
3) AnVir Task Manager Pro (!) I don't recall what the free version can do.
4) PikyFolders (part of PikySuite)

I had piky basket under testing remember.
Anvir Task Manager i have seen too. It's a great program. a free version I think have this possibility. It's only I prefer freeware.
I'll take a look to PS Hot Folders.

Thanksxxxxxx

Bueno. Es de pago. A veces desearía tener mucho dinero para comprar todo cuanto deseo en internet.

Buen fin de semana.

Un abrazo

I have been using Direct Folders for years and I think it's best in its class. Unfortunately, it it is not compatible with ESET antivirus.

I have just replaced FF with FileBox eXtender and it seems to work pretty well. I haven't had any problems using eXtender with OpenOffice.org Writer.

Do you use the version 3 of Open Office ?

I have problems with Calc in this version . With Writer I don't Know.

Contro,

Yes, I am using version 3.1 of OpenOffice. I just tried Calc and I see no problems with eXtender. I don't know what the problem could be with your system but, if you're running Windows that probably says it all. (Yes, I use Windows.

)

Contro · « **Reply #30 on:** August 01, 2009, 08:18 PM »

I don't understand. There is a post in for Open office version 3 and filebox eXtender don't goes well in the issues forum of Open Office.

For those who really like FileBox eXtender and can live without its functionality within Openoffice, just add an exception for ...\openoffice.org 3\program\soffice.bin in the fbx settings screen and check "Do not handle this program at all". I did this since none of the fbx alternatives have persuaded me to switch. Calc works fine and I still get fbx for everything else.

we should include a clear link in this thread to Filebox Extender itself, which is free and is being updated, and is a terrific program:

I used FileBox Extender for a couple of years. Had a problem. Can't remember what.
Switched to Folder Guide. Works for me.

- ehh? Free, yes, but not being updated.

Please note: We no longer support FileBox eXtender. We make both the binary builds and source code available for download here for your convenience, please do not ask us for any support or improvements.

But "a terrific program" it is

I just prefer PS Hot Folders

I agree that FileBox Extender is still the best. However I must say that -- although I regularly try and use FBE's, DF's, Dopus' as well as Windows' recent folder function -- it's only with a lot of luck when I actually seem to be able to go to the respective recent folder I'm looking for. Anyway, I don't use the recent folders and favourites function that often.

However I was wondering, is there ANY other tool at all that has the fantastic feature of FBE where you open a file open/save dialog, then click on an explorer (or Dopus) window, and the file open/save dialog is instantly switched to the same directory which that Explorer window is currently pointing to? This is THE key feature of FBE I must be using a hundred times a day.

Cheers David.P

Personally, I think Direct Folders is the better program. But I like Filebox Extender as well. That is, I don't mean to say it's a bad program. It's great also, probably my second choice. That directory synching thing is very cool, David.P! I didn't know about that.

Still, DF is better overall because of a few specific things. I've written a review about it on my website (it's actually hosted by DC):
http://aram.dcmembers.com/software/direct-folders/

and, of course there's the big review here from a while back:

But don't go with my antivirus.

AVG

And somebody tells also goes bad with eset......

A Strange program indeed ......

superboyac · « **Reply #41 on:** August 21, 2009, 03:33 PM »

Probably an overly sensitive antivirus program. it probably has something to do with the way it hooks into the dialog boxes. It's a legit program, I'd just set it in the exclusions list. Kaspersky doesn't have a problem with it.

Contro, I've talked a lot about these programs here. Currently, my program of choice is Direct Folders. See my review:

NOD32 says there is malware in the download

superboyac · « **Reply #43 on:** August 22, 2009, 07:31 AM »

What can I say. There's no malware or virus. it's just an antivirus program being overly sensitive.

Ramirez · « **Reply #44 on:** August 23, 2009, 08:38 AM »

I use Shock Bookmark.

http://www.docs.kr/entry/Download-Shock-Bookmark-en

It is simple, can arrange your "bookmarks" into folders, has a "move to" and "copy to" feature, and can run programs, open folders and URL's too.

Mind you, I have no idea if it co-operates with OpenOffice, but I have yet to find a program that it doesn't.

Direct Folders, already mentioned here several times, does it.

- the May 2007 update was for Vista, I assume; it is working perfect on mine. But of course I went and asked Mr. Poplavski about PS Hot Folders for Windows 7. Here is his answer, four months later, ~~if anyone would care to translate~~... I have no idea if he even answered my question or if this maybe is a robot generated merry Christmas card or whatever!:

I am very happy with my PS Hot Folders, but in order to recommend it to my friends I need you to tell if you're going to update it for Win 7, or if it possibly already works with Win 7, please.

I can tell you that I also have licenses for FileBox eXtender, Piky Folders (Piky Suite), Handy Folders, Direct Folders, and AnVir Taskmanager Pro, but I prefer PS Hot Folders because it is available via more programs.

Curt

I liked the rollup feature of fileboxextender.
Which is here in another program,
but that's all it does.
Works with W7. Free.

http://www.palma.com.au/winroll/

For folders and shortcuts I don't need much more then I already have to work with.
