Apart from installing it via third party sites like FileHippo, is there any way to get Quicktime only from the apple site now? They seem to have removed all standalone links.

Can you still uninstall itunes after the install?
That should remove the extra services too.
itunes and apple mobile device
If not you can disable them of course.

and bonjour and ituneshelper.
Not sure.

Perhaps the aptly named QuickTime Alternative would be an option for you?

cmpm · « **Reply #4 on:** March 12, 2009, 01:59 PM »

Some times the QTA doesn't work for some files.

Don't know why.

Just like Foxit doesn't work on all pdf files, so adobe reader is still needed, or a comparable.

It seems to be here....

Rats - no it isn't! Just takes you back to the other places....!

Very Sneaky!

Yep Filehippo has it still - but for corporate use you'd want to get it from apple + the agreement might be just for qt not itunes.

Lashiec · « **Reply #7 on:** March 12, 2009, 02:53 PM »

Apple could just go f*** themselves, really. This is the second time in a row they have removed the download links for the standalone QuickTime. Oh well, I'm sure it'll come back after there's enough public backlash, just like last time.

For getting rid of bonjour-

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Au-Revoir-Bonjour.shtml

itunes helper should be in add/remove
or disable it

Darwin · « **Reply #9 on:** March 12, 2009, 04:34 PM »

Thanks for the Bonjour removal link, cmpm. I'm Apple free on my Windows machines (not on my iBook, though!), having been driven to distraction by iTunes and QuickTime and the myriad of services and plugins that install with them and which are almost impossible to remove selectively after the fact.

Even though I am no longer running either iTunes or Quciktime, it's nice to know that there is a program that will help me rip out the bits I don't need should I be careless enough to install them again in the future

The page is back to normal, so everyone can "enjoy" QuickTime without the burden of iTunes

Thankfully, we may be able to ditch the entire thing once Win7 comes along as it now has native support for the MOV container (the trailers from apple.com I've tested with in build 7057 all worked just fine without any 3rd party codecs installed)

Don't know what this'll mean for web content expecting the QT plugin though...

I hope not, because I loathe all things QuickTime on Windows.

WHYYY would you both jumping through hoops trying to find an old version of this useless piece of crap when you can use QuickTime Alternative as mentioned by Zeno Systems with your favorite media player? Insanity!!

Ehtyar.

f0dder · « **Reply #15 on:** March 16, 2009, 12:21 AM »

Quicktime alternative is just the codecs ripped out from the full QT package, isn't it? And how often is it updated compared to the main package?

Ehtyar · « **Reply #16 on:** March 16, 2009, 12:47 AM »

Meh. For me, so long as it works I don't care. Anything to keep QuickTime itself off my machine.

Ehtyar.

f0dder · « **Reply #17 on:** March 16, 2009, 12:51 AM »

Well, official but unsupported codecs == potential malware attack vector - that's a thing I care about.

But sure damn thing, the alt. codecs are so much less hassle than the original crap, both for QT and RP

Try the following:

Download the iTunes installer.

The installer is an archive file which can be unpacked - I am not sure which apps will do this but I have found WinRAR can unpack it to a folder.

Inside the unpacked folder is QuickTime.msi which allows you to only install QuickTime.

Total Commander should also allow you to extract the contents of the installer. I haven't tried it for iTunes but I usually use TC any time I need to unpack an installer file.

Not extremely often, but it seems to be enough for me to always be able to play QT movie files.

Universal Extractor is always the best app for this sort of thing. WinRAR/7-Zip will often work though.

It's usually updated a few days after the official QuickTime.

just download one from its chinese site, fill the email address only.

lanux128 · « **Reply #24 on:** March 19, 2009, 03:15 AM »

from what i read, i believe the justice needs QuickTime for corporate use. (?) if not, i'd suggest for QT Lite even slimmer alternative package.

P.S. i use KMPlayer which comes with internal codecs.
