Read more about this true story at Wikipedia, Snopes, and from the Born Free Foundation (who helped Christian learn to live in the wild). Also, the Born Free website has the uncut ending of the documentary.

Btw, is it just me, or does this John Rendall actually have the haircut of a male lion?

this showed up as well - a documentary about it from the time - poor picture quality, odd start but interesting

I just found a link to an uncut ending of the documentary from the Born Free Foundation. I've updated the original post to include links to more info about Christian the Lion.

very 70's isnt it!
the bizarrest thing I find is that they bought him in a department store, different days eh

so cool.

Long, long ago I bought my pet rabbit from Harrods.
We named him Harrod, being full of originality.
He used to live in a spare bedroom.
Our dogs were used to him and would look out for him when we all went walking on Hampstead Heath (on the northern side of London).
Never met a lion.
Did come across a chimpanzee walking with its owner one early morning, about 5 a.m.

The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.

Another heartwarming story about a man and a dog.  Don't read unless you have some tissues nearby:
