What are some of the weird websites you have found while surfing?

Here is one that is all about wrapping Roy Orbison in Cling Wrap: http://www.michaelkelly.fsnet.co.uk/karl.htm

From the site:

Quote

Some person sent me a story about Tom Petty in clingfilm and I deleted it. I do not get that, I try to be broad-minded but who would possibly want to wrap Tom Petty in clingfilm? There are strange people in the world.

Warning... the last link on that site is NSFW

Think you're seen every mod made?

Try imagining what it would be like if Jules Verne's vision of the future was the one that came to pass? These people do. And even more importantly, they build things. Working things...

The Time Cube.

Time Cube is a website created by Gene Ray in 1997, where he sets out his proposed theory of everything, a description of the nature of the universe.

You can't handle time cube. trust me.

Not what you're thinking.

I'm out for now.
I remember a long time ago a website that was link after link to various pages that contained surreal flash animations, bits of poetry, strange javascript tricks, etc. Any clues?

Was that the one with the little creature traveling to a bunch of weird mini planets and each planet was an interactive puzzle?

Edvard · « **Reply #5 on:** July 29, 2008, 08:31 PM »

No, it was more like somebody's surreal art project in 145 webpages. One page would have a drawing of a stickman in a box, and when you clicked it, it went to a picture of a cow that would flip when you hovered over it. the link there would take you to a scan of a scrap piece of paper with some nonsensical poetry on it, where each word was a link to another page on the site with further weirdness. (that's just from foggy memory, I'm sure it wasn't exactly like that...)
Imagine a slightly medicated artist, painting with java, flash and hyperlinks on a canvas of html...

Damn, now I HAVE to find it...

BTW - This is pretty weird:

Welcome to PrincipiaDiscordia.com! This website is dedicated to bringing the Principia Discordia to the masses, in its original, chock-full-o-pictures form! What's the Principia, you ask? Well, it's the Magnum Opiate of Malaclypse the Younger, Wherein Is Explained Absolutely Everything Worth Knowing About Absolutely Anything. Duh!

And if you were wondering, we aren't affiliated with Mal-2, Robert A. Wilson, or anyone else for that matter. We're so completely out of the loop that it's silly.

And what exactly is the Principia Discordia?

I can imagine your sitting on your b-dumper the side of some backwoods road and another car comes around the bend...

I had been wondering what a FNORD was

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fnord

Quote

Fnord is the typographic representation of disinformation or irrelevant information intending to misdirect, with the implication of a conspiracy. The word was coined as a nonsensical term with religious undertones in the Discordian religious text Principia Discordia (1965) by Kerry Thornley and Greg Hill, but was popularized by The Illuminatus! Trilogy (1975) of satirical conspiracy fiction novels by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson.

Main article: The Illuminatus! Trilogy

In these novels, the interjection "fnord" is given hypnotic power over the unenlightened. Under the Illuminati program, children, while still in grade school, are taught to be unable to consciously see the word "fnord". For the rest of their lives, every appearance of the word subconsciously generates a feeling of uneasiness and confusion, and prevents rational consideration of the subject.

In the Shea/Wilson construct, fnords are scattered liberally in the text of newspapers and magazines, causing fear and anxiety in those following current events. However, there are no fnords in the advertisements, encouraging a consumerist society. It is implied in the books that fnord is not the actual word used for this task, but merely a substitute, since most readers would be unable to see the actual word.

To see the fnords means to be unaffected by the supposed hypnotic power of the word or, more loosely, of other fighting words. The phrase "I have seen the fnords" was famously graffitied on a railway bridge (known locally as Anarchy Bridge) between Earlsdon and Coventry (U.K.) city centre throughout the 1980s and 1990s, until the bridge was upgraded. The bridge and the phrase were mentioned in the novel A Touch of Love by Jonathan Coe. Fnord was also graffitied all over the state of Maine and New England.[1]

Now you know. [FNORD]

I see you've misspelled "Fliegende kinderscheisse" again.

This thread has reminded me of a weird website I used to enjoy, started by artist Bill Barker of Schwa fame.
The website that corresponded with his books was splendidly surreal, but it's gone now, with the domain possibly hijacked:

A classic "weird" site that I just love would have to be http://homokaasu.org (not everything is in english, some stuff is in Finnish)

I have wasted way too much time on their simply designed, not always that easy to play, strange flash games.

40hz · « **Reply #24 on:** August 05, 2008, 05:46 PM »

This doesn't use html so I don't know if it fully qualifies. It certainly is weird enough.

Try entering the following, either in the Run dialog box, or in an open cmd prompt:

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

Then sit back and enjoy the entire original episode of Star Wars presented in hi-def ASCII graphics.

This is something Edmond Dantès might have done if he had the technology available. Which just goes to show -there are some people in this world with way way way too much time on their
hands...
