Cross platform, portable Onenote-like software?

[electronixtar]

I've using OneNote for years, now collected data over 1GB

But I find it very annoying first because it's BIG, have install Office 2007 to use it, hope it's more slim and portable.

And I could not manage my info on Linux/Mac

Suddenly I thought that if OneNote support SVN versioning, everything is solved! I can even pending the same post from many places

Is there any full-stack PIM software like that?

EverNote is sorta cross-platform with the coming web-based version.

Off the top of my head, I only know of two pure cross-platform apps like you ask, KDE Pim (way to go, an original name ), and Evolution, but those are FULL PIMs, maybe too full to replace OneNote, and both are flaky under Windows. OneNote size is bigger though, but in features is slimmer (no mail, RSS reader, etc.). A quick search over the giant thread only uncovers NoteCase Pro.

EverNote already has the web version.

Looks like EverNote is a good alternative

I use and like Evernote. It's sufficient for basic note taking, although the desktop applications offer far greater features then the web version.

Ever use the program wikidPad? (at http://wikidpad.python-hosting.com/)
Looks like something you can use. Free and open source - Screenshot below:

Try Zoho Notebook (www.zoho.com). It works online, but pretty well as a substitute for OneNote.

Dag Consultores.

Notepad++ and Textpad are two very good alternatives that I've used for the past few months now.

About Evernote, which is cross-platform (at least Mac-PC), I just worry about the fact that your data is also online (from what I have understood) : is this the case, or can you keep everything locally ?

I mistakingly thought that for years also.  It's not true.  The truth is Evernote does both.  it stores your data locally AND on their website.  The program syncs itself as you add stuff to it.  I used to not like the idea of it, but it's actually really nice.  You have the option to use evernote locally on your pc, with no internet connection necessary.  But because it syncs, you can also access your data from a web interface if you are on other computers.  And you can also access it using a mac, iphone, ipad.  It's pretty darn cool.

Thanks for clarifying this.  Currently on PC I am using UltraRecall Pro which I find very powerful (but with a steep learning curve).  I just wished it could be ported on Mac, but it doesn't seem in Kinook's plan.  Too bad !
