IDEA: fixing tray icons
« on: October 16, 2007, 04:14 AM »
I have a requirement for something that can 'fix' which items are displayed in the system tray, kind of like those apps that save your desktop icon positions etc and force them into the same layout/configuration.

problem I have is that I like to hide all bar the icons I use (currently 2 AHK scripts, browser, and total commander), and I have to reset these every day.  The native (XP) functionality works, but the settings don't stick (see my thread here... http://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=10398.0)

Ideally it would be something in AHK that could be integrated into the tray menu script I use (I'm sure this is possible, I just don't know how to go about doing it...)

TIA

Heh, heh - keeps coming back to PS Tray Factory doesn't it?! I wonder though if something simpler than PS Tray Factory couldn't be coded, perhaps in AHK? I love PS Tray Factory, but Target is looking for something with a lot less bells and whistles (I think).

yup, I have a setup that I'm pretty happy with, so I'm really only looking to sort out the icon randomising functionality...

I'm most definitely not looking for lots of bells and whistles.  I like small, and functional, and no installs...

from "Shareware that don't have freeware replacements"

Well, I gave up on Tray Wizard. It kept on forgetting that I hid some icons and also didn't allow some of them to display. So, now I'm using TraySaver which is better at managing the system tray. You can get it from http://www.mlin.net/files/TraySaverB10.exe. The source for it can be found at http://www.mlin.net/files/TraySaverSource.zip.

just happened to remember it - dont use tray management myself!

PS does Target = Tom C.?? (same avatar at any rate..)

sorry, I'm not Tom C (any resemblance is purely coincidental...)
