TweakGuides.com - Firefox Tweak Guide

[tinjaw]

I just found this site while looking for a particular configuration setting for Firefox. I haven't read through the site yet, but it looks very good.

Has anybody seen any reviews/critiques of this guide? Often the information on sites like this is less than accurate. I have no experience with the website, so I do not know their reputation for accuracy. Can anybody enlighten me?

nice find -- i never knew about that site.

April the 24'th.  DC Supporting Member  AdIyhc  inspried me to buy the de luxe version of Mr. Koroush Ghazi's   Guide for XP   [most recommended!], and I am glad to see this new version for the Firefox browser. I am certainly going to download the free version and consider purchasing any future de luxe version as well.

You can download the tweak guide for XP at this site: http://www.tweakguides.com/

Edit: Oh, one cannot download this guide:

The tabs behaviour is a thing that I definitely liked more in Firefox 1 than in Firefox 2. These options are mentioned on the page that tinjaw has posted, but here's how to change to somethink like Firefox 1 behaviour:
Go to page about:config, and change:
browser.tabs.closeButtons to 3 (single closing button on the right of the tab bar)
browser.tabs.tabClipWidth to 1
browser.tabs.tabMinWidth to 1 (with this setting, tabs can become so narrow that just the icon appears on them; makes switching between a lot of tabs easier - you don't have to scroll the tab bar)
The page looks interesting, I'm sure I'll find some more useful optimisations.

I still have TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows XP (Version 3.5, July 2007) but I read distribution is prohibited... Maybe DC can ask to host it?

I think it's the other guides (apart from XP/Vista ones) that arent downloadable.

It's not very clear on the site - is there actually a difference between paid & free version of say XP one
If there is he should really make it more obvious so more buy!

[Lashiec]

It has several enhancements including pictures, higher DPI text and full bookmarks but really the main reason to buy it is if you want to support my work in creating and maintaining these guides.

Those are the differences

The new gratis (absolutely not "FREE") Guide version 3.6 for XP is 172 pages and 2.1 MB PDF,
and my "old" (March 2007) premium verson 3.4 for XP is 211 pages and 11.6 MB PDF.

- but I really didn't bother to further compare the two versions. [Edit: See prev. post from Lashiec]

Contents, gratis version 3.6 (645 x 5523 pixels, 376 KB):

Contents, "old" premium version 3.4 (645 x 5525 pixels, 351 KB):

What I really like in Firefox (and Opera) are keyword searches: whenever you see a search form, right-click on the input field and select "Add a Keyword for this Search":

Then you give it a name and a keyword:

After this you can enter "dc whatever" in the address bar of the browser to search the forum for whatever. I use it mostly for google, domain lookups, and translations via dict.cc

[tomos]

thats a nice one to know housetier - dict.cc too! I was just looking for help in that direction

tell us, is that a FireFox theme or is it how the world looks outside (of) windows

[housetier]

It is a theme for firefox, named littlefox; the dark colors come from my gtk-theme. I like littlefox because it is ery complete, it themes all the dialog windows and even stumbleupon.

There is also a similar theme for thunderbird, called minibird.
