That URL doesn't seem to lead to a site where one can download mc2xml.  Some further cursory searches just led to a lot of dead ends.

I wrote one [a frontend to xmltv files] a long time ago. It still sort of works, in some browsers, and it's really easy to try.

Basically extract my archive, stick your xml file in the same directory, name it "tv.xml" and open up "tv.html" in a web browser.

That's a quick and dirty script. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised.
Wishlist:
- options to select favourite channels and show only them. I've already got a .chl file to include only selected channels, but it would be preferable to do it with GUI.
- option to automatically download the xml data on demand/startup would also be welcome.
- now it shows only the channel number and not the channel name. Option to show the channel name will be appreciated
Update: I changed the option in mc2xml to show the channel name rather than channel number first and now the listing shows channel name.

I've got few more ideas, but maybe they are more relevant for an .exe version rather than a script?
For the present I am using your script. I wonder why it never showed in my search. Thanks for coding it.

Having said this, if anybody  would take up the project to create a standalone .exe/.ahk version I am willing to beta test it.

TV Scheduler Pro - I've used a commercial fork of this software for the last 5+ years and it has never once failed.

You can set it to automatically grab the XML for you, and if you have any DVB-T/S devices connected (using standard Windows BDA drivers), you can set it to automatically record based on various match criteria.

Alas, I don't have any device attached to the PC and the auto scan option (if no device is attached) is only available for the following countries, and it is not available for my country

Hi,
I don't know if it is a coding snack idea, but here it goes. I downloaded the .xml file of my region's tv schedule by using mc2xml from http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/, but could not find any software as a frontend to show the details. If I missed any existing free tv schedule software (for south asia) kindly let me know, otherwise I would like to know if it is possible for any autoit gurus to code it. I am a recent autoit convert, but definitely not good enough to code anything like this. Thanks.

Hi,

Is it possible to use regexp to fill the folder name field? To reuse xd1986k's eg.,
[Chemistry] Workbook 01.rar
[Chemistry] Workbook 02.rar
[Chemistry] Workbook 03.rar

I could search for "^(.*) \d+" and name the folder as "$1". Obviously, it would require 2 boxes - first to search with regexp and the second for the folder name and if the pattern could be saved for future reuse, it will be a bonus. Hope you consider it. Thanks.

I had similar problem i.e., some websites will not open without proxy server and other sites will open normally. After much troubleshooting and looking through and trying various suggestions, I at last changed MTU setting in my ADSL modem from 1500 (default) to 1400 and now all websites which would not previously open, opened normally. Hope that helps.

Long time back I downloaded a software called "Accelerator & Shortcut Show". It seemed to do the same thing as the proposed Cheat Sheeter (maybe not so ambitious). I didn't use the software much. I could not find it in the website I downloaded earlier from (http://www.thinkred.com), maybe a Google search might yield something. I still got the software, if you could not download it from anywhere please send me a message and I will email it to you.

Hi Neville,

Surfulater should meet your need nicely here. Create whatever virtual folders you want, add articles to them, then simply attach your HTML files to the articles or link to them. If you attach them they will be stored in the Surfulater database and you can delete them from your PC. This puts everything in the one place, so you can easily carry it around, move it to another PC, back it up etc.

That's exactly what MHTArchive (the program i'm presently using) does and that's exactly what I don't want. I want the program to just point to the file in my hard disk and not try to integrate it into its database. But your idea of just linking files seems to be what I want, but with no internal viewer, I think I will wait for that day.

Maybe you could download MHTArchive and see what I'm talking about? I'm saving and viewing not only html files, but also the hundreds of PDF files I have, with it. I would like the same functionality without actually importing the files into its own database.

This is not to put down your product, but my needs are different. I can use Surfulator for storing future pages, but I need something to organize thousands (literally) of pages I have already saved.

PS: BTW, I use http://www.tranglos.com/urlinject4.zip to add the URL and date/time stamp into the saved html file. It is another excellent product from Marek, the maker of keynote. This is different form InjectURL, his old version.

i understand what he wants, and it makes some sense.
he wants the program to be able to bookmark and refer to LOCALLY stored files.

in other words he wants the pages and files to be left alone on his local disk where he can manipulate them as normal files; and just let the manager program work with them there instead of trying to repack them in its own format.

YES, that's exactly what I want. At last I'm able to make someone actually understand what I want.

im actually a bit interested in what you might find for this so i hope you'll keep us informed if you find something that works.  this is sort of relevant to the discussions we've had about note taking apps - and the issue of how data is best stored.

Definitely. But being on a slow dial-up my ability to scavenge the net (and my ability to respond to the posts in the forum) is very limited. But my quest continues and if I find anything worthwhile, I will definitely share with the forum.

Hi mouser,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already tried it, but it does the same thing as MHTArchive. What I actually need is a bookmark manager (with drag and drop capability and ability to create folders within it) with an integrated browser. Only difference is, instead of links pointing to www, it will point to a local file. Now I think I'm more clear. Hopefully this will bring in more suggestions.

Very glad to stumble upon this thread - great reading. Too bad the thread seems to be slowing down. I too am in the quest for that elusive "perfect" note-taking program and have collected a number of links over the years. Being on dial-up, I am unable to download and test all of them. I don't think so. Does it allow creating virtual folders and allow virtual files to be linked to actual files in the hard-disk? KeyNote allows creating virtual files but shows only the source view of the html files instead of the html view. There is another product MHTArchive which has internal html viewer but it integrates the html file into its own database instead of just showing the linked file. Anyway thanks for the speedy response.

I have got a lot of html files dealing with various topics and subtopics. It will be very messy to create folders for each topic and subtopic. What I would like to see is a app which would act as a container/link to all these files with an internal html viewer. It should be possible to create virtual folders and files (tree format) within it and link the files to an actual html file. Clicking the file should open in the internal viewer and double clicking it open in the default browser. To put it simply, it would be like an enhanced bookmark manager with internal viewer. Is it possible? Thanks.
