Joel On Marketing: "It's not about me!"

mycaps Screenshot - 001 , 10_54_AM , Jul 21 2006.png
Joel Spolsky runs a software company, and he writes very well on the subject of software.  He has written some insightfull articles that we've talked about on this site.

But he is an incessant and unrelenting self-promoter.  Which seems undeniable unless you ask Joel himself.

Here's a section of an interview from a new book by Bob Walsh on Indie Software Vendors.  They are talking about blogs and marketing, and the subject comes around to Joel's blog:
Q: "Do blogs fit there?"
Joel: "Tell me whose blog.  On my blog, I don't attempt to blog for the purpose of marketing."
Q: "So PR is free and low price.  It may be your blog, or it may not be."
Joel: "I don't think a blog can do marketing"
...
Q: "Well, what would you say about Joel on Software then?" [joel's blog]
Joel: "Ah! You see this is sort of different. Joel on Software is editorial not on the subject of my business."

A fun drinking game is to visit joel's blog and drink every time you see a story that promotes his own software or books.. but please kids don't play this game unless you can afford to sleep off a nasty drunk at a friends house.

All kidding aside, joel is a great writer.  But come on joel, your blog is not on the subject of your business, and it has nothing to do with marketing?  That's a good one.

Amazing Mario Brothers Epic Flash Opera Series - Incredible

mycaps Screenshot - 001 , 10_16_AM , Jul 21 2006_thumb.png
ok look, if you have played the mario brothers series you owe it to yourself to watch these animated movies.  sometimes you have to just sit back and appreciate the creativity and devotion on display by some people.

Watch now..

Interview with author here: http://eboredom.20m....interviews/leon.html

what amazed me most here was this guy's serious skills as a story teller.  i just finished part 5. wow.
caveat: if you've never player these games on a nintendo then these movies might not pack the same emotional punch.

this is an oldie but goodie..

Browsers, Bookmarks, & synching

blog clipart
what with imperfect browsers and so on
I end up using (at the moment and depending on requirements etc.)

Opera
Firefox
Avant (I.E.)

I wondering does this exist, (or could it?!!):

A (portable?) programme that you can save your bookmarks to :read:, say with a universal hotkey, or from the context menu.
Then you dont have to be thinking, now where did i save that.

Or maybe something that can import bookmarks from diff browsers, synch them, and export them or save them in format for import back to browser

I know theres online stuff & I've only tried delicious with FF, but if youre working on a different computer & you dont have the plugin installed its a pain I found.
Maybe I'm just being too impatient :) (or not understanding ...)

What do you people out there use?
