Userbar Generator: Cool Freeware
« on: September 14, 2007, 10:23 AM »
I'm guessing there are other tools like this available, but this is the first one i've seen and it does a terrific job.  Very fun and easy -- if you ever wanted to have a "userbar" in your forum signature or on your blog, look no further.

Ever wanted to make a Userbar, but never knew where to start? Well, this Userbar Generator is going to change all that! Userbar Generator by DanSoft Australia is an easy-to-use program designed to help you make good Userbars, without the need for Photoshop.

Hmmm... I wasn't sure but when looking I found this interesting site with lots of (unknown quality) image creators...

Should be something there for everyone  ;)

phil, put the following inside your message text to display the bar at full size where you want it, rather than in thumbnail form:

Here's one I made some time ago in Gimp (using an easy tutorial on the net). It's posted elsewhere on the forum, but I'll just put it out there once more :)

Hey guys, I'm the creator of the Userbar Creator. I'm glad to see you like it  :D

I'm planning on releasing the source code soon. I've been meaning to do that for a while, but never got around to it. Would you guys like that? It's written in Visual Basic 2005. Watch this space :)

Daniel15: could be interesting enough to see how you've done it - like, static bmp backgrounds or fancy procedural stuff :)

Drat... I was all ready to post my own and the program won't do repeating images! I'd already cropped out the nicest little nipple you'd ever see and... Zane would have loved it! :)

I was disapoointed with the amitysource because it will only let me type 59 characters, spaces included, but I need 61, to show my tag thingy.

There's no static images - The whole userbar (gradient, scanlines, ellipse thingy, text) is drawn using GDI+ :)
Note that this was one of my first real Visual Basic 2005 projects, so the code is a little messy. I'll try to clean it up a bit before releasing it publicly :)

I know it's a lame question, but somehow I cannot figure out how to add an image (e.g. userbar) to the signature. Does the image have to be hosted somewhere, or it can be uploaded?

I was disapoointed with the amitysource ...

Frankly, I am disappointed with both amitysource and Userbar Generator, and with all the sites mentioned in reply #3. What good are these small blurred letters?? Didn't anybody write a program to make it easy to make a nice looking userbar with some message which you can actually read? Is it really necessary to use PhotoShop or The Gimp?

Oops, I completely forgot about this topic.
I released the source a week or so ago. Take a look at http://www.dansoftaustralia.net/ for the Userbar Generator as well as the source code :D

This would be even better if it accepted PNG transparency and could tile/repeat the overlay image.

you know what might be cool is if.. when we setting on a good userbar look, we could upload the config file, with text like:

"DONATIONCODER.COM MEMBER: XXXXXX"
where user could put in their username and make clicking on the bar link to their profile on donationcoder..
could be something fun people could use on other forums, etc.
