Game with ecosytem
« on: December 30, 2022, 09:28 AM »
I stumbled across this video.. These games that seem simulation-based seem so intriguing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMx8OsTDHfM

https://store.steampowered.com/app/312520/Rain_World/

Cost: $8
Reviews don't seem so good.

I'm not sure I would play the game myself but I'm quite curious to watch more videos on it.

No?

94% of the 396 user reviews in the past 30 days are positive.
92% of all the 7,044 user reviews are positive.

Unless it's one of those games where it's widely just a meme to leave a positive review, I'm not sure I'd agree with your assessment.

After watching it I would have to say it is not a game with the most complex ecosystem. Interesting but that's about it.

To me it looks very compelling, like the designer captured something quite extraordinary in terms of creating an emotionally compelling world where it feels those creatures are alive and real.. I'm glad to hear the reviews are more positive than it seemed at first.

Agreed. I felt like the guy was saying a whole bunch of stuff in the game was unintended/emergent interactions, but it looks to me like it was all designed to behave the way it does. Very interesting to see and learn about, but far from "the most complex ecosystem" in any game.

Thanks for sharing the video, mouser. I enjoyed watching it and learning more about the game, even if I disagree with the basic premise of the video.

Some reviews that focus on some negatives:

Oh. Sorry I did not mean to say anything negative about it. It looks interesting and possibly fun to play, just the fact is that it is not a game I am drawn to.

Save 33% on Project Zomboid on Steam

I have been playing that for nine years and have 5k+ hours in. My goto game as it is fun, for me, since it has a no-win scenario and you have to play 100% at your best or the game is over. I like no win situations.

Ah. You were talking about reviews by games journalists. I'm not surprised they didn't like it. ;D
