Is FlashGet any better than FreeDownloadManager?

On Wikipedia, it lists FlashGet as containing 'Cydoor Pop-up ads' - if this is true, I'm dumping it straight away!  They also say it costs $29.99, so maybe their information is outdated?

I found this second entry on Wikipedia, which reads: 'Note: In version 1.72, the Cydoor ads removed.'

Hmm, I liked Flashget quite a bit a few years ago, if I recall. Stopped using it because of Adware, etc. issues. But free again? I may just have to check it out! Maybe I'll fall in love with it like I did with Opera when it became free. :D

let me know if it's safe to upgrade...I am still running a pre-1.0 version that is so old that it doesn't have ads any more...and it never had the spyware in it.

I have always loved flashget.

anyone know how to make flashget auto close sooner than the default 15 seconds after it has finished downloading files?

I've been using flashget since yesterday, and i must say i'm pretty happy with it.
No ads, no spyware, etc, only places hooks on web browser, to detect downloads, i think, but i didn't allow them to be placed.
It's quite good, i like the fact that it helps organizing the downloads.

Yeah, it did that even before it turned shareware/adware/whatever, so the hooks shouldn't be a problem. And it does work fine without them, although you'll miss a few features (that I used so rarely, anyway, that I don't even know what they are :)).
