PrtSc key does not work on Lenovo W530 laptop
« on: May 26, 2014, 03:20 PM »
I am a new user running Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a Lenovo W530 laptop. Neither PrtSc or Alt+PrtSc causes the screen to be captured. I have also tried Fn+PrtSc and Fn+Alt+PrtSc. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Let's first ask a silly question:
Is the ScreenShot Captor icon (white letters sc on a blue computer-monitor) visible in the system-tray? And can you right-click it to execute a capture option like 'Grab entire Workspace' or 'Grab entire Screen (PrtScr)' ?

Sorry to disappoint but I am not that dumb. :) Yes, Screenshot Captor is alive and well and running in the system tray. If I use the capture bar everything works as expected. The only problem I have found so far is that the PrtSc key does nothing. Thanks for the reply.

Next one to rule out:
does the PrtSc button work if SC is not running?
(should take and copy a screenshot to clipboard)

Yes, PrtSc works as expected if Screenshot Captor is not running.

I restarted Screenshot Captor after testing the PrtSc key and now everything works. My apologies. I should have tried the standard "turn it off turn it on" fix before posting.

@Bazsl: i see that "turn it off turn it on" has fixed the problem for you but it is also good to check if there is any anti-virus/anti-malware is blocking Screenshot Captor. some banking/financial apps by default block all screenshot tools.
