I am trying to make the black background go away and I can't seem to get it...I realize this is probably pretty easy stuff but I am just learning all this - can you help?

Hi frank, welcome to the site

Can you elaborate on what you are trying to do and what's happening that you don't want?

I was trying to create an image from text - I could create the text and even save it to a jpg but if I try to export it or isolate it and cut it out to make it a stand alone image, I am prevented. It remains in the solid black background. I know it's probably something simple but I am new at this

ah..
save it as PNG file.

jpg does not support transparent backgrounds, but the png format, which is widely supported does.

give that a try and let us know if it works.
